Japan's been hit with back-to-back major quakes.
That worked for me until the wife-to-be moved in and blew it.
A lesson for all foreigners living in Japan. Never open the door until you hear "yuubin desu."
The number of Pacific-wide tsunami the last 40 years has been very, very, very low..anomalously low, so your observation is valid.
3,000 people were killed a few years ago in New Guinea by a localized tsuami (quake that wasn't THAT big caused an underwater landslide that caused a tsuami that hit them with only a couple minutes warning.
There have been a couple fairly bad tsuamis in Indonesia in obscure places, small ones in Japan, but no really big Pacific-wide ones for a long time.
Wasn't there something a few months ago about scientists claiming they could predict a huge earthquake in California .........was it August? My memory is failing me. :)
I experienced my first quake in Yellowstone a few days ago. Everyone acted like it was a normal occurance, but it sure got my attention.
Watch out, Hilo!
The seismometer I posted above is just outside Yellowstone, and is quite sensitive.
I have been watching Yellowstone for the past few years and it is quite active, but, it isn't increasing in frequency or size of quakes. Just the nature of the beast.
In the 50s, it was common for neighborhood tradesmen to not knock. Instead, they'd throw open our front door and shout out their services. One guy would come in and shout, "sharpen knife and scissor !"
50-50 chance by today,I think.Pinpointed an area too.But,as you say-Calif.,not Japan.
Was kerry in Viet Nam?
