They started the shootout just as the morning was breaking on the east coast in an effort to damage the convention. They have underestimated the US people.

I don't know, but if this had happened in the U.S. the MSM would have blamed President Bush. Hell, they may blame him anyway.

I think it most unlikely. If they were really thinking about timing, they would be aware that an attack like this as the time of the convention is only likely to stiffen resolve and therefore would play into the hands of Bush.
