FOX NEWS STUNS NETS

September 4, 2004 -- NETWORK news divisions are nursing bruises in the wake of the Republican National Convention, in which viewers found cable news more popular. It was a seismic shift in the history of convention coverage, and it sent a clear message to network news officials that in 2008, things will have to be different.

"There's no question that we stood back and said to each other, 'Whoa, what happened there,' " a network news source said yesterday.

"I'm not sure what lesson we've learned from this convention," says ABC News senior vice president Paul Slavin. "But there are a whole host of new technologies coming online now that we will all utilize four years from now in ways that none of us may even suspect right now."

Slavin thinks that next time, the big nets are likely to offer viewers convention coverage "significantly enhanced over what they received this year" specifically tailored to different viewers tastes.

Hey Paul. Lesson One should be to not treat any GOP/Conservative viewer as some sort of freak. FoxNews wins because they at least make us feel equal to the elitist media.

This isn't quite accurate. CNN didn't win. It was Fox!

Why not just be objective for a change? No amount of money invested in "whizz-bang-ohmigod-wow!" technology will ever be a suitable substitute to unbiased reporting. If a reporter ever goes in the tank for any candidate, fire 'em. Make reporters earn their day's pay.

These people are in total denial, I'll tell you what happened, you don't have the public by the balls anymore and they know your liberal slant to coverage sucks. If Fox network put Nightly News on their entertainment Channel it would also destroy all your paid talking heads. People like to hear the truth, BS can only get you so far and only with the certain demographic of people like the mentally retarded and liberal zealots.

Good to see socialis baby boomers losing their capital... they stole so much from the future it is time now to grab it back and send them packing to little villages in a shared community.

Presumably liberal tastes. They never learn

Ha ha ha. These dorks are just absolutely clueless. My prediction: broadcast networks will dismantle their money/ratings hemmorhaging news divisions within the next decade.

Here is a typical MSM effort to lie about the truth...newspaper, TV, Cable...it makes no difference to the elitist media.

We are on to you MSM!

AP CLAIMS: 'AUDIENCE OF THOUSANDS BOOS' AFTER BUSH WISHES CLINTON 'SPEEDY RECOVERY'; 'Bush did nothing to stop them'...

THEN RETRACTS: [BC-Bush-Clinton, 1st Ld-Writethru,150 Bush offers best wishes for Clinton's recovery Eds: SUBS lead to include reference to surgery. DELETES 3rd graf previous, Bush's audience, because of uncertainty about crowd reaction.]...

"If a reporter ever goes in the tank for any candidate, fire 'em. Make reporters earn their day's pay."

I think you'd have to start by firing their bosses first, since they are the ones hiring reporters who match up with their biases.

specifically tailored to different viewers tastes.

I don't see this ever happening. If this clown is suggesting that they'll have one channel with all Liberal clowns on it, and another with all Conservative viewpoints on it, that just increased the salary budget 2 fold. Where the hell is all this money going to come from?

I remember when the alphabet soup channels closed down foreign bureaus years ago, because leaving them open and staffed was affecting the bottom line, thus affecting the viewers viewpoint of events happening overseas, and concentrated solely on domestic news, bombings in Israel, or Presidents taking trips to visit foreign heads-of-state. Somewhere, there is going to be some give and take.

MSM should permit a citizen in person on camera challenge to any elitist media clown...and I don't mean email complaints only. This provision should be a matter of license renewal.

Lesson one, don't let people like Brokaw come on 2 seconds after the president's moving speech saying things like "there was no mention of WMDs"

In fact, fire people who exhibit such obvious bias. Be objective. REPORT THE NEWS AND KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF. I have my own, I dont need yours.

You also have to couple with the fact, the bosses are more interested in ad revenue. They are not interested in what you or I think of their news coverage or what slant it takes.
