September 4, 2004 -- Democrats were reaching for the panic button yesterday amid growing fears that John Kerry is blowing the 2004 race while President Bush basked in the glow of a successful New York convention. "The smell of panic is in the air," said a veteran Democratic strategist as Time magazine reported that Bush has suddenly built an 11-point lead over Kerry.Democratic angst was fueled by Kerry's decision to hold a shrill, post-midnight rally right after Bush's well-received convention speech and blast the wartime commander in chief as "unfit to lead."
"It looked reactionary and panicky and angry not confident. That's not presidential," said a senior Democrat.

The only thing standing between John Kerry and the Presidency is John Kerry. His ego is running his campaign.
No Kidding!
That, and George W. Bush.
Rush Limbaugh has said many times that the more we see Senator Kerry speak in public, the less Americans like him. It appears that Rush's observation has become a crushing reality for the Kerry campaign. :-)
Only Garafalo and Kerry were shrill last night. Hey, even Estrich said she'd have given W a four star rating on his speech, but she gave him three because she was the hired opposition (on Fox).
I've said this before on another thread too that They have to be sweating bullets now, because its 11 points, and until now they've had the left stream media on their saide, but they can't stay thier forever and act like nothings wrong. And also up until now, absolutely no one (excluding Jon Stewart, who REALLY doesn't count) has been allowed to ask J effin K a question...they do not want that to start because then, if it wasn't over yet, it soon will be. IMHO
And this is making Senator Clinton very happy.
I advise Kerry to get away from it all and try to chill out this weekend . . . Go play polo or something.
excluding Jon Stewart
Man oh man was that a BAD appearance. Kerry looked like he'd never encountered human beings before, and was trying to take it all in good humor...except he has no humor.
A liberal friend called it "100% pure embarassment" and didn't want to talk about it anymore.
Wasn't that the case with Al Gore, too? Seems the Dems have a penchant for the same personality type.
It's a mark of defeatism when the Kerry campaign has to run ads which only show President Bush. Kerry has nothing to run on except being from Massachussetts and we know how much that counts.
I wonder what their October surprise will be:
the "girlfriend got an abortion" tale
the "cocaine usage"
National Guard
I don't see anything REAL that would work. Would not surprise me if Kerry, Howard Dean-like, simply brought up these topics on the last weekend, "I'm not saying there is something to these stories, BUT..."
THANK YOU!!!! I've been needing a new tagline :)
Too bad...they made abad decision on everything this time around.
None of us should be surprised if they try it again, but it won't work. I think the majority of Americans understand what's at stake in this election and that this is no time to give the presidency to an indecisive person like Kerry. The only thing that is surprising me is how early the Democrat meltdown is occurring.
There's the poor (now) deceased schizophrenic in Texas who apparently claimed the president AND the secret service molested her and her husband. I was on DU (armed with a full course of prophylactic antibiotics) a few months ago and read that one. But there's only one reporter who dealt with the story and I tried to track any legitimate news sources and came up with zilch except a big paranoid wad of tinfoil.
