Putin's response is going to be brutal. The nation will go into morning for 30 days while the special forces start kicking in doors. There will be mass executions or both real and suspected terrorists in Chechnya. Putin will go after holy shrines in Islamic countries.

I believe that when Putin has strong confirmation of the identities of the terrorists involved in the school seige, the entire extended families and all known friends of these terrorists will be hunted down and coldy slaughtered, mercilessly and without prejudice, like pigs.

The message to Chechnyans will be crystal clear:
"You do not want to have even a passing acquaintance with terrorists."

Putin is smart enough to understand that this is the ONLY response that has even the remotest possibility of being effective. Keep your eyes peeled for this to happen very soon.

I take back my thoughts that all the Muslims in the area supported this. Several Muslims offered to trade themselves for hostages but were tuned down by authorities. Warning -- I cryed at this article.

I have only a vague recollection of some fairly healthy violence thrown Chechnya's way following the theater incident. A lot of news doesn't make it out of the region. In this case though, with lots of children dead and an outraged world watching, there will be very serious repercussions for Chechnya. Whatever we ultimately are allowed to see on the news, times it by one-hundred.

I do not mean this in an argumentative way, but, a lot of children died when the police tried to gas the theater with a sleeping gas but ended up killing children in there. The Russian people were furious and I may be wrong about this, but I believe Putin was on a seaside vacation at the time it was happening and was srongly denounced. Just don't be surprised if he has a weak response, and after the twin planes attacks.
