Did you also notify the Bush/Cheney office who organized the event? I'm sure they'd love to know about this and get their people on it.
Kerry did a well-wishing/speedy recovery comment, which he twisted into a bash-Bush comment. 'we wish Clinton well and by the way how dare they question my patriotism and my ability to be commander in chief when they didn't serve when they had the chance'
I can't believe he's still harping on the 'they didn't serve like I did' crap.
Drudge now has a developing story that it was retracted.
Get me their number.
There was some discussion of this during RR's funeral. It all depends on what Clinton's wishes are, and the family's. I'd guess Clinton wants a humdinger of a send off, outdoing everyone who's died before him in the entire world. We might have to build him a pyramid or a sphinx or both.
Mine too -- years ago.
Drudge has left original headline up. Has correction developing.
I still say where has Drudge gone?
I spoke to the newsdesk at the Globe. They are in the process of retracting the story.
If it was the "boos that Bush did nothing about" that was the impetus for the Globe to post the report then they may not post the correct version.
One other thought -- Old media does not even begin to understand new media.
Did they really think they could get away with it?
The answer is yes -- they just don't understand the power of the new media.
Drudge has the original headline up because the Source still does.
He should leave it up as long as they have it up.
When (if) they finally come around to correcting it, then he should point out the lie too.
I'll see if I can track it down for you. (I thought maybe you had experience with the campaign... but I'll see what I can do.) :-)
And I lost a billion dollars in the stock market last year.....
Oh, wait. Neither of us ever had those things!!!!!
ping for you to tell the truth
Drudge has now noted that AP has retracted the story... I used to be a radio reporter, and if I had reported a lie like that, my boss would have fired me. But then he was a conservative, and actually had scruples.
Here is the third version of the AP story, all linked from boston.com.

Bush offers best wishes for Clinton's recovery By Associated Press | September 3, 2004 WEST ALLIS, Wis. -- President Bush on Friday offered former President Bill Clinton, who faces heart bypass surgery, "best wishes for a swift and speedy recovery." ADVERTISEMENT "He is in our thoughts and prayers," Bush said at a campaign rally in Wisconsin. Later, aboard Air Force One, Bush called Clinton to express his concern for his heart problems, according to presidential spokesman Scott McClellan. The president told Clinton that he and the first lady were praying for him and wished him a "speedy recovery," McClellan said. Bush offered his wishes while campaigning one day after accepting the presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention in New York. Clinton was hospitalized in New York after complaining of mild chest pain and shortness of breath. Bush recently praised Clinton when the former president went to the White House for the unveiling of his official portrait. He lauded Clinton for his knowledge, compassion and "the forward-looking spirit that Americans like in a president."

We should keep all three versions and try to get timestamps for them because by tomorrow morning AP will have settled on one of them and act as if the other versions had not been issued.

How strange!! I just sent an e-mail to Boston.com to tell them I saw President Bush make this announcement and every-one in the audience applauded and yelled, as when they applaud and yell at any other point he makes in his stump speeches. THERE WAS NO BOOING~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Trust but Verify was there. He said there was absolutely no booing.
