I'm no expert either but the poster who said "arm the teachers" sounded good to me. However I believe that teachers as a group (In general) are a liberal lot and you would never get them to go along with it.

My thought too. I don't want teachers armed. I'm about to become one. I wouldn't be one of the liberals, but I don't want to have a loaded gun with me. I don't know what I would fear the most--terrorists or mentally unbalanced students, or teachers like the ones we've got carrying a loaded weapon. While I agree something needs to be done, this is not the way to go.

That's what we have for my kids, of course, my kids are home schooled. Even so, I would volunteer a couple hours a week to arm myself and patrol the local elementary school. But even permit holders are not allowed to carry in a school. Got to "protect the kids" you know. Never mind that the bad guys know there aren't guns allowed in the school, so there would be no resistance to their terror. But don't worry, our courthouses and state capitols have armed protection. Go figure.

My kids have actually had a few teachers who served in the military. Local cops can at least ask teachers if any are interested in undergoing intensive anti-terrorism training to protect the kids. Sometimes Americans surprise you.
