I admire your idealism. I think it goes further...the Islamacists hate our free and open society because it does not adhere to sharia. You can't separate religion from this issue. Also, more than a few of the 9-11 hijackers had lived in this country, had wives and children in this country and in Britain-Many were college educated They were not poor. Some spent their last night on earth at a strip bar...They had lived amongst us for years. Our way of life did not move them, the innocent face of the babies they killed on those planes did not move them...Nothing will change them. Liberals and idealists believe if we change their circumstances, perhaps we can change them and make them understand us and if they understand us, the violence will stop. This is a pleasant dream..but it will never happen. They will never stop until we make them...and conventional warfare won't work. Perhaps if we destroy a mosque for every westerner murdered, we would get their attention. Let their bodies rot in open pits-deny them a burial. Maybe we should wrap their bodies in pig skin and feed them pork and watered wine. Who knows? But you will never make friends with them-no matter how well intentioned you are. I am sure they will accept what you give...and then turn on you at the first possible opportunity. The poverty of the Islamic world does not cause terrorism. Terrorism cause the poverty of the Islamic world-big difference.

I was not trying to say by making them understand the difference or understanding us it will stop the terrorism.. Nothing will stop that till all those who for what ever reason... be it Sharia law... be poverty.... be it political injustice... as long as the feel they can use violence as a means of protest and combat terrorism will occur. That is a given... I just think this goes beyond pure religious reason.. there are a lot more reason terrorism happens besides Islamic Dogma.
