Fox News beats all rivals at GOP ratings (beats ABC/CBS combined, NBC/MSNBC combined)
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 09/03/04

Fox News was the winner in the TV ratings battle during the Republican National Convention.

On Wednesday, for the second straight night, Fox beat out not only its cable rivals but also broadcast networks.

In the 10 p.m. hour Wednesday, when all the networks were airing convention coverage, Fox averaged a whopping 5.9 million viewers. NBC had 4.5 million, ABC claimed 3.3 million and CBS got 2.6 million.

In another upset, MSNBC, usually the third-rated cable news network, was beating CNN. CNN averaged 1.202 million viewers on Wednesday between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., compared to MSNBC's 1.214 million. It was the second straight night that MSNBC beat CNN.

Final convention ratings numbers come out later today.

But the numbers seem to support the argument that cable news has become politically polarized. CNN was the top-rated cable news network during the Democratic convention earlier this summer and now is dead last.

Mega-liberal CNN is heading for the deep, deep ratings toilet.

Don't these liberal media have any stockholders to answer to? Oh I forgot... the press releases from the Democrat National Committee take top priority as "news."

Thank God for Fox! Brit is the most well-mannered and reasonable guy out there, DESPITE being friends with SKerry as a child.

Right now I am staying in extended stay motel for work and they don't have FNC. I finally couldn't take it anymore so I went and got ANOTHEr room the last two days so I could see Fox News coverage.

I think we need to set up some effort to let Hotel/Motel operators know that they really should consider adding FNC to their line-ups instead of the CNN, CNBC, MSNBC crap. I swear, Larry king is such a lizard he could play Godzilla without a rubber suit.

I can't understand why extremist haters like Ron Reagan and Susan Estrich are put on TV. They drag the conversation down to such nasty levels.

There are far more well-reasoned and level-headed liberals whom they can have on. Mara Liasson, who appears with Brit Hume every night is bright, articulate and intelligent. Her opinion is to the left, but she does a great job without getting pissy.

There MUST be more liberal journalists out there like her that they can get on Fox. I can't watch Estrich when she comes on. She's just such a nasty, ill-mannered, mean-spirited and shrill party-line liberal.

Fox is still the only network that I know of that has people from both sides of the aisle who are ALLOWED to speak. Others may have them on, but they're only on for the commentators to yell over.

I just got through and sent Brit Hume an email complaining about that hag, Susan Estrich, being over-exposed on Fox News.

For direct comparison, check the Wednesday 10 pm figures from the DNC (from here):

Viewers continued to shrug at the Democratic National Convention, which each of the big three networks covered at 10 p.m. NBC led the hour with a 3.8/7, followed by CBS' 3.1/5 and ABC's 2.7/5.

versus the RNC figures from above:

In the 10 p.m. hour Wednesday, when all the networks were airing convention coverage, Fox averaged a whopping 5.9 million viewers. NBC had 4.5 million, ABC claimed 3.3 million and CBS got 2.6 million.

Seems that a lot more people were interested in what the Republicans had to say.

I can't either. Monday night after Rudy's speech she was absolutel venomous on Greta's show -- she HATES the man because he tried to kick his wife and kids out of Gracie Manor and wanted to introduce his kids to his lover... there is sooooooo much more to that story that she was giving and there was wrong on both sides, but it didn't belong on TV in Primetime Monday night... the discussion should had been strictly on the speech.

I tried to watch Fox, but they were so full of it during the convention and they wouldn't shut up to let you hear the speeches so I ended up watching CSPAN for all but 2 hours on Monday.
