I assume Checny must be Russia's main source of oil, else they would have nuked those losers, or built a barrier years ago.

Well, that's what a liberal told me: it's all about oil.
got this from a source cited several places:
"both Chechnya and Tatarstan possess substantial oil reserves, with Tatarstan alone producing 25% of the Russian yield."
as far as I can tell, Chechnya appears to have reserves, but not much production.
Actually, not much oil in Chechnya. Most is all gone and most was never on real Chechyn land but on northern "Chechyn" plain (ever drill oil from mountain side?) which till 1920 was lands of the (now thanks to Stalin & Chechins) extinct Tarek Cossaks (Tarek river runs in Grozny).
