Democratic hysteria over Sen. Zell Miller's Wednesday night keynote address to the GOP convention continues to escalate, with Kerry defenders now trying to label him "a Klansman.""Zell Miller looks like a Klansman," media has-been Dick Cavett groused to radio host Don Imus on Friday. When Imus objected to the characterization, Cavett joked, "You didn't think I meant the Ku Klux Klan, did you?." He then added in the next breath, "You would cast him as that in a movie."
Cavett was apparently picking up a riff first road tested on Thursday by pro-Kerry Republican David Gergen, who complained that Miller was a "man of hate," just like his long ago boss, Georgia Gov. Lester Maddox.
Of course, neither Cavett nor Gergen has ever had anything to say about the Senate's only genuine ex-Klansman, Sen. Robert Byrd - apparently because he supports John Kerry.
Cavett, whose claim to sudden relevancy is based on the fact that he hosted a 1971 Vietnam debate between John Kerry and Swiftvet leader John O'Neill, could resist taking an ugly potshot at the man whose book, "Unfit for Command," has turned the presidential campaign on its ear.
Referring to the Swiftvet's appearance on his show, Cavett explained, "O'Neill had been groomed, entertained and fondled, for all I know, by Nixon and Haldeman."
Robert Byrd is a Klansman.
"Pitiful. We've got George Soros comparing Bush to Hitler, and now Cavett comparing Zell to Robert KKK Byrd."
Don't forget Kerry comparing the military to the hordes of Ghengis Khan.
Funny that Zell was so highly thought of that Clinton had him as his keynote speaker at the '92 convention.
Old Media have really outted themselves and don't seem to understand just how irrelevant they are.
...and they say Dick Cavett looks gay. That he could play that kind of part in a movie, that is. Something like that.
Worse than that, Cavett was truly attacking John O'Neill ("Unfit for Command" author) personally. He and Imus were laughing about the out-of-date suit that O'Neill wore when he was on Cavett's show years ago(O'Neill himself has spoken as to how he had very little money back then and couldn't really afford anything else to wear), about O'Neill's gain in weight, and even how it was no big deal that O'Neill donated a kidney to his own wife. Cavett was vicious, and Imus, of course, did nothing to defend O'Neill.
But predictably, they did not dispute the facts that O'Neill brought up.
Cavett sucked up to Kommie Kerry in 1971. Looks like he didn't learn anything.
Imus has always been a freak..bragging about driving his daughter to have an abortion..
Zell Miller is being painted as a racist by the Dems: Cavett, Estrich, Willie Brown, Gergen, and even Andrew Sullivan on his blog. This is their rebuttal to his speech. Pathetic! Funny how they chose him for the keynote speech in 1992 if this was the case. Next we'll hear Bill Clinton say he personally witnessed Zell burning black churches in Arkansas!
But Zell Miller was still a teenager when the Dixiecrats were at their zenith in 1948, led by Strom Thurmond who was then a DEMOCRAT! Further, he never held a federal office until being appointed to the Senate in 2000! Before that he was governor and lieutenant governor of Georgia. Did those crackers in Georgia elect a racist all those times?
Cavett was at room temperature back when anyone had heard of him.
He is now at mummy temperature (whatever that is)
He would be nasty if he had the energy, but he's too nuanced.
Some of the Left's tactics are downright scarey. These comments reach the level of Pravda, Nazi, North Vietnamese, WWII Japnese and Maoist China propaganda. I can't belive a license to broadcast wouldn't be jeopardized by some of this baseless libel. This is world class treachery, and can only be seen as an attempt to interfere with a general election.
We can't help it that Cavet and company decided to place all their hopes in a traitor, a rebelious advocate of a coup and possibly even the ponderer of multiple assasinations.
Kerry's own words damn him, for the whole world to see. His own actions betray him. His own stiff neck and refusal to appolgize seal the deal. Zel's big crime? Advocating wholesome values and a strong defense of the United States.
Cavet has soiled himself something fierce here.

No, he does not look like a Klansman. But I'm afraid, as much as I admire him and loved his speech, he does look a bit like Mr. Burns.
That is truly pathetic. O'Neill was just days out of the Navy.... I guess to the psuedo-sophisticated Cavett he looked like a rube. When you can't attack the message, personally attack the messenger!

Cavett getting payed off by the Dems. When the Dems start using the race card then you know they are losing the battle.
Increasingly, liberals have only ONE card to play -- the race card -- and they play that same card over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over...
Cavett sounds like every other CORNERED Democrat who has shot their wad and is simply out of amunition. This old has been, along with his liberal buddies always attack the person they are after, never the ideas because on ideas they don't have any. Zell is anything but a racist, and anything but what Cavett called him. Zell is a lifelong Democrat of the old school. He is a true PATRIOT of this country, a noble Marine and a man who came out of poverty without his father who died when Zell was young. Zell was raised by a strong wonderful Mother with true grit and American spirit. His book "A National Party No More" is wonderful reading. Cavett is a coward who should be ashamed of himself.
Actually, he reminded me of a Baptist preacher - probably equally abhorrent to the Democrats.
A Klansman? What does a Klansman look like other than white? Do all whites look like Klansmen then? He did not bring up one racially sensitive issue, as I recall.
This is just a blatant smear.
