Fighting back, Democratic Sen. John Kerry (website - news - bio) called President Bush (website - news - bio) "unfit to lead this nation" because of the war in Iraq and his record on jobs, health care and energy prices. He lashed out at the incumbent and Vice President Dick Cheney (website - news - bio) for avoiding service in the Vietnam War.
"I'm not going to have my commitment to defend this country questioned by those who refused to serve when they could have and by those who have misled the nation into Iraq," Kerry said in prepared remarks issued as the Republican was poised to accept his party's nomination for a second term.

Program your VCR's for midnight ET
the Traitor will have a news conference
Kerry's campaign SUV just went over the cliff.
Tad Devine made the exact point earlier tonight on H and C. I think this is the new Dem. talking point. so pathetic.
I love the smell of DNC sweat. It has a distinctive odor. An odor of failure. Burnt toast.
How dare Kerry suggest that Guard duty is anything less than honerable!
Especially since he "volunteed" after his deferment request was rejected.
Fighting back, like a girly-man, with spitballs!
Where's the Democratic Whine and Cheese Alert on this post?
Is this clown for real?
He's sticking to his tact, thinking he'll win?
Ahhhh yes, coming from someone that joined the Navy to avoid direct combat, it means little to those who were around at that time. He's either unlucky that his unit got called for that particular duty (just as Dubya's unit could have), or he's lucky that Teddy got him a photo-op in the Jungle for 4 months to support his anti-US stance.
Kerry tried NOT to serve as well by trying for Reserve duty and he failed to make it. So he went Navy, hoping to avoid combat. Then he did SwiftBoats, because they weren't FOR combat initially... He tried THREE TIMES not to serve.
Turn out the lights...the party's over as Dan Meridith used to say.
all about the abu ghraib tonight, 1 hour special.
Why do we not hear about Edward's military service?
Let's talk backfire. Kerry trashes the men who freed 50 million people from tyrany. Kerry served and because of his actions 2 million Cambodians were slaughtered by the Khmer Rouge.
Madness this way lies..
So long, Kerriiiiiii'..
Too bad he didn't direct some of his energy at Clinton for his deferments and gaming the draft board and ROTC,etc.
Hypocrisy rules the Rat party.. Hope is also a small town in Arkansas, John, yaknow.
And when will we here about how Edwards didn't volunteer? This is so desperate and stupid. It's just going to make the Vets even angrier.
Say now, that's real intelligent! Now, someone help me out here. What service was John Edwards in? I'm having trouble recalling.
Just noticed I repeated previous post. OOPS
