Hugh was a bit incredulous since Bush hasn't even spoken yet. I think a lot of people just wanted reassurance that Bush was OK, after getiing non-stop negative messages from the MSM for the last few years. Once they saw McCain, Giuliani, and Arnold praising Bush, they decided it would be OK to go ahead and vote for him.
Unfortunately, many people are that shallow...
