Bush twins 'embarrass' parents. (video)

Posted on 09/01/2004 7:58:42 AM PDT by evets

Ha ha. Well, they said it, not me:

"Remember all those times when you're growing up and your parents embarrased you? Well, this is payback time on live t.v.!"

(I loved it and thought they we're funny. I'm sure that their family loved it too!)

Their parents weren't the only ones embarrassed.

"The convention is not a somber event..."

I dunno, those elephant-head hats and stars and stripes sequined jackets covered with campaign buttons project a pretty sober image to me...

I agree with you.
Jenna and Barbara Bush gave a humorous look at their family and parents at the convention. I did not find their speech to be embarrassing. It was actually humanizing. I listened to all of the stodgy pundits deliver their slaps at the twin's performance and could not believe it. I think that if anyone is wrapped up in themselves, it's the political commentators. The teasing remarks aimed at their parents and grandparents reminded me of the way we tease each other in our family at gatherings. The purpose of having the children of a candidate at the convention is to humanize him/her. I looked at their presentation as a glimpse into the fond relationships they have, not as any deep politcal statement. Their speech was not meant to be analysed critically, only enjoyed.

What do you have against the Bush Twins?
Why would anyone measure what the think by what Fat-ass Moore has to say?

LOL!

Using Michael Moore's words to refute or defend ANY cause is just plain silly.

Article just posted on Drudge:

Michael Moore - "I loved the Bush twins"

I'll rest my case with this.

And your point is? Even an idiot can be right part of the time. I'm not about to base my opinions on how opposite I can be of Michael Moore, I have a mind and an opinion of my own, nor do I need to wave around someone elses opinion to prove my own.

Some are not capable of enjoying those moments....which is a pity cause they are much more heartwarming and calming than a nerve pill..lol.

yep..and just plain silly is nit picking at two young, very innocent looking, mischievous young girls who haven't done anything to hurt anyone.

It was embarrassing, all right.

Totally harmless. Just two cute all American girls being silly. The convention needs a breather now and then.

By the way,if anyone was embarrassing, it was Cheney. While I believe in his message, you think he would at least try to sound interesting.

I really do wonder what makes people nit pick about stuff like this.

Some genetic weakness, ya think? ;o)

(btw, you want to know what I do with my life? Next time you have a few hours, I'll start to tell you. I won't finish, cause I won't have time because there's so much to tell, but I can give you a rough idea if you're really interested).

I took a look at your profile page, so I suspect I have a pretty good idea of your life's major theme.

And, talk about projection! You let 2 girls comments embarrass you for days, and accuse me of undue emotion. LOL! Funny guy.

What can I say - their performance was embarrassing for them. I picked up on that; you ignore it for whatever reason.

Now, please. Try to let all those bad feelings go.......OK? There's no need to stay embarrassed about this.........really, there isn't.

Like I said earlier, my comments are based on a detached calculation - if you're driven be feelings and emotion (as I suspect you are), you'd be making a mistake to assume the rest of us are as well. Classic projection.

President Bush is going to give a great speech tonight, and he's going to be reelected, and we'll have four more years of strong, moral leadership. Your embarrassment at his daughters notwithstanding, I hope you at least understand that THAT is all that matters.....

Of course, as I stated above. No one votes based upon a candidate's daughters - hence the reason they didn't belong there in the first place.

"I took a look at your profile page, so I suspect I have a pretty good idea of your life's major theme."

Incidentally, that isn't a slam. You're obviously proud of your son (?) and supportive of our troops, as well you should be. You also pretty obviously support the president, and again that's your right.

My first thought............is this guy still bothering me?? And why??

Just a few more words, and then please leave me alone.

Your continued use of the word 'embarrassed' to describe this event belies an emotional involvement on your part that you can't backtrack on by saying it ain't so.

I am not emotionally involved....beyond amusement at how petty this all is.... in how people like you reacted to this so-called embarrassing event.

I like the girls. I have a 'spirited, fun-loving' daughter myself, who has a teasing relationship with my husband, which is very much like the one the twins have with their Dad, so I could see that she might do the same kind of thing. I thought it was cute, but beyond that, no big deal one way or the other. The only reason I made any comments whatsoever on this thread is because of the (idiotic) overreaction to how the twins handled themselves by obviously emotional men who were 'embarrassed' by it.

My dedication to re-electing and supporting the President has nothing to do with my appreciation for this light hearted, unpolished moment at the convention. It belonged there because the President and First Lady and their daughters wanted it to be there (and it WAS the President's convention, in case you missed that), and you guys who thought it didn't are just plain stick in the muds, and seriously need to get something more important to spend your angst on. Getting as worked up about this as you did is just silly.

btw, what you see on my profile page is just a small fraction of my life. I know it makes holier than thou guys like you feel better to imagine that those of us who look at this President as an answer to millions of prayers, and see him as the man God has given us in His mercy to lead the nation we love through perilous times sit around and do nothing but admire Bush and follow in lockstep with whatever he says, but you're just plain wrong right down the line.

btw, our son (age 20) got back from Iraq in April and is doing very well. He has a huge VETERANS for BUSH sign in his college suite's window. I haven't asked him what he thought about the twins, but my guess would be that he wasn't one bit embarrassed by them.......

I love the girly-girls on this forum who think that what the Bush twins did is an insult to their manhood, dignity and authority and would take off their belts and give them a good hiding. We have been treated to an inside look at what goes on in a great family. I saw nothing but love, kindness, warmth, humor and dignity.

Exactly!

You saw nothing but love, kindness, warmth, humor and dignity, because that's what was there.

That is, if you have no political blinders on, or some emotional weakness in you that makes you project anything more into it....

(I'm still laughing at Barbara's deadpanned line that 'our hamster didn't make it.' What a great slam on the Kerry girls and their imaginary CPR story!)

Gee, perhaps because you continue to engage me in conversation? So long as you continue with verbose replies of the type you posted here, expect that I'll rebut them point by point.

Your continued use of the word 'embarrassed' to describe this event belies an emotional involvement on your part that you can't backtrack on by saying it ain't so.

More projection. I find it humorous that emotionalism continues to be at the forefront of all your comments; it's obvious to me that you view the world as emotional...similar to you, perhaps?

I am not emotionally involved....beyond amusement at how petty this all is.... in how people like you reacted to this so-called embarrassing event.

I said I thought it was an embarrassing speech for them, and I get jumped on by folks here. I'd have made a comment or two and left it alone, if not for folks like yourself who posted over-the-top responses to me.

I like the girls. I have a 'spirited, fun-loving' daughter myself, who has a teasing relationship with my husband, which is very much like the one the twins have with their Dad, so I could see that she might do the same kind of thing. I'd agree on the no big deal comment. As far as cute...I thought it was more juvenile than cute, but perhaps that's just a function of our different experiences.

The only reason I made any comments whatsoever on this thread is because of the (idiotic) overreaction to how the twins handled themselves by obviously emotional men who were 'embarrassed' by it.

Again with the "emotional" bit?

I know it makes holier than thou guys like you feel better to imagine that those of us who look at this President as an answer to millions of prayers, and see him as the man God has given us in His mercy to lead the nation we love through perilous times sit around and do nothing but admire Bush and follow in lockstep with whatever he says, but you're just plain wrong right down the line.

Just to clarify, you do consider the President as "an answer to millions of prayers, and see him as the man God has given us in His mercy to lead the nation we love through perilous times", but you don't "follow in lockstep with whatever he says". Is that accurate?

btw, our son (age 20) got back from Iraq in April and is doing very well. He has a huge VETERANS for BUSH sign in his college suite's window. I haven't asked him what he thought about the twins, but my guess would be that he wasn't one bit embarrassed by them.......

To each his own. Glad he's back safe, and I'm sure you must be quite proud of his service.

Yes. Absolutely on both points.

The REASON I keep using the word 'emotional' is that anyone who is still embarrassed by this IS emotional. It's an accurate description. (Read some of the other posts of the guys who share your embarrassment.......they're literally exploding with anguish.......kinda funny and pathetic at the same time, actually).

And as to our son. We have never been so proud of anyone or anything in our lives than our son's brave service for the cause of our country's freedom and safety.

And my apologies for the 'verbosity.' I was born this way. ;o)

It's payback time on national TV

What a great line. This is pure class - and you can only do that in a family that is totally comfortable with itself. I know there are a whole bunch of insecure whimps out there that are terrified that their own daughters will be inspired to try something like this. Imagine a country so self-confident that can laugh at itself and be stronger for it.

I was listening to an Edwards rally. Some young lady - must have been about 22 year old - stood up and asked a question. She was giggly and nervous. You know what - the crowd laughed and encouraged her. The dems can behave like human beings - sometimes - without worrying themselves about it. The austere face of some - the inability to act as though you are human - is what scares people away from Repbulicans. I mean Jesus was not so moronically morose - why do the rest of us have to be.
