Four days ago, retired naval Rear Adm. William L. Schachte Jr. seconded accusations made by the group Swift Boat Veterans for Truth seeking to discredit Democratic presidential nominee John F. Kerry's record in Vietnam. But since then, Democrats have discovered that Schachte is also a long-standing supporter of President Bush and a lobbyist whose client FastShip Inc. recently won a $40 million grant from the federal government.
...
Kerry has said Schachte was not on the boat that night, adding another mystery to the disputed events of 36 years ago. But other events are not in dispute. According to a March 18 legal filing by Schachte's firm, Blank Rome, Schachte was one of the lobbyists working for FastShip on issues such as the effort to win funding for a new marine cargo terminal. On Feb. 2, Philadelphia-based FastShip announced that it would receive $40 million in federal funding for the project.

Only a Democrat would consider that proof that he's lying.
"Democrats have discovered"
Yet strangely enough they haven't discovered the ties between 527s and the Kerry campaign.
This makes me very angry. Who cares! These guys had lives before this all started. Just statistically some of them were bound to be Republicans. Just because he was a Republican supporter does not mean he doesn't have a right to speak or that he lying.
Will anyone focus on the question of fact? Schachte says he was on the boat, Kerry says he wasn't. All the rest is immaterial. Besides, this was the wound that the Kerry camp agreed was questionable.
They don't realize that every shot they take at the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth is passing through the hull of their campaign.
Recent evidence has emerged that John F'n Kerry has close ties to the Demon Rat Potty and is seeking the office of POTUS
Only the most naive among us would have believed the DNC "Larry Flynts" of the world would not have been wearing out shoe leather, digging up any and all dirt on the Swifties.
It's a sure fired fact that Kerry won't release his records, in their entirety, and the only recourse for him would be to discredit them.
These innuendo's and accusations will do little to stop the "gathering storm".
Good post. It's my understanding that Schachte was on the "skimmer", a smaller boat closer to shore, acting as bait for fire from the shore which would in turn be hit by gunfire from the swift boat. He would have a better view of any fire since his boat would be the target.
From the people I have talked to, they really don't care if there are ties. It doesn't change the truth, and that is what they are more concerned about.
The guy is a retired REAR ADMIRAL and now has ties to a group working for a MARINE cargo terminal. Right?
What do they think that this guy would (or even could) do after he retired from 35 (guess?) of service...knitting? Basket weaving? What?
These libertards still don't get it. Talk about actions 35 years ago or not. Talk about Kerry's record or not. Talk about Kerry being a war hero or not. If you say something, there is the possibility that (GASP!) someone might disagree with you. You'd think that these punks would know this because everything (EVERYTHING!) that the president says, you disagree with...and call him a liar...and compare him to Hitler...and say this is the worst economy...and blame Bush for killing the envrionment, the children, innocent lambs, etc. Get the point yet, dorks?
Don't try to connect the motivations of a young Lt. (Schachte) on a boat where another young Lt. (Kerry) alledgely injured himself to a retired REAR ADMIRAL's given vocation. That's absurd.
Then again, so are the libertards.
Lets see,
So way before Feb 2 ( when the contract was issued ) Bush knew that months later Kerry would attempt to play the war hero card at his convention, which would incite the SwiftVets to start their attack.
Sure - that must have been the way it happened...
Sooner or later, it's going to happen.
Consider the Source: the Washington Post has abandoned the slightest pretense of objectivity for this election, not that it ever had much with the clown Robert MacNamara on its board of directors; its really become the Kerry campaign's daily broadsheet.
"Schachte says he was on the boat, Kerry says he wasn't. All the rest is immaterial."
There should be some type of 'official' document that can resolve this. Perhaps a 'daily action' report, or a medal citation.
Washington Post. That is all you have to say.
