These AL guys really are letting me down.
A lot of veterans are like a lot of other oldies.
They’re just there to hear about all the free stuff they’ll be getting.
(but I sincerely thank them for their service anyway, unless they're arguing over seven cents with the supermarket checkout girl in front of me.)

Couldn't agree more. As a longtime legionaire I can tell you that lots of members would have to sneak up on a rock...they are as you say, interested in the price of beer in the canteen and what the Government can give them.

These AL guys really are letting me down.Give them some consideration.
Despite the person speaking, these veterans do something Kerry forgot to do when he returned from Vietnam, about veterans and people in general.
Veterans more likely than not treat EVERYONE with respect.
I would assume the silence is the most respectful response they can give Kerry.
