Kerry appearance at American Legion - live thread
self

Posted on 09/01/2004 4:46:34 AM PDT by rudy45

Sorry for starting this thread so early. Is this like calling "shotgun" three days before the trip starts LOL?

I was trying to find out the time that the Senator's speech will occur. I found nothing at the Legion website (www.legion.org), nor at the Kerry site, nor at CSPAN. When will the speech be given?

Anyway, here is a thread for people to post their comments.

Minion, you get it. I've said for a couple of days now that whether this was intended or not is irrelevant. Bush's comment keeps the entire discussion on the WAR ON TERROR, and as soon as you put Bush (even critically) and the phrase "War on Terror" together, people immediately go back to that day in NYC when he stood at ground zero with the megaphone. It's the most amazing thing I've ever seen! The libs just don't get it: they CANNOT beat Bush on the War on Terror, and the Swifties utterly destroyed Kerry's faux proxy to the War on Terror, his "heroism" in Vietnam.

and then spend the next 35 years replaying them over and over and over again is not exactly of a "sane" mind.

Don't forget, he promised the NY Times that he would never use his movies to campaign.

I am 67 yrs. old. My grandmother's entire family disappeared into the ovens.

The utter shame of the Munich olympics is shared by the german response and the terrorists.

I have two late in life children. My daughter born when I was 40 and a son born when I was 37.

My son went into ROTC and entered Clinton's army right out of college. He served four years during that debacle of an administration.

That we would be subservient to the likes of the French and Germans or the UN is a most horrific scenario. I wish more Americans would pay attention and realize the utter danger we would place ourselves and the civilized world were Kerry to become president.

Not that God is in anyway associated with death and destruction, but the timing of the events in Russia is almost supernatural in reminding us what we face.

I wish the former Secretary of the Navy, Lehman would be on the stage.

The only reason I think that Kerry would still show up for this is to take a departure from his current stance of attacking other Vets, and acknowledging that his anti-war actions did hurt, seriously hurt, Veterans. I would expect some sort of 'nuanced' apology.

I would expect a cool response from the Vets, at best.

If that is not the case, he is hopelessly lost in his Sgt. Rock fantasies and his 'magic hat'.

Didn't he already speak to the VFW...aren't those the guys that turned their back on him?

This is the American Legion he's speaking to today.

Your message is powerful and compelling.

non-apology apology

Wasn't it Leno who said if Kerry wins the Presidency he'd be the first President in history who could deliver the State of the Union and the rebuttal!

Kerry is going to tell the vets about all the things he's done for them while in the Senate and bash the Swift Boat Vets.......this ought to be something to behold.

The timing is suspicious!

Remember Dean saying that the terror threats were phony. Kerry has agreed with that sentiment on several occasions.

While the media continues to focus on the inane, they suggest that the raised terror alert is political posturing.

My grand daughter at UNC-Chapel Hill says that the Kerry daughters and Edwards daughter were on campus there yesterday. Also said she'd heard they were going to other college campuses.

Do you have a citation, or photos, or other evidence (people who were there) that a hundred or more VFW members turned back-to while Kerry was speaking?

Hmm, I'm searching for the source, but so far found only this:

"Kerry's reception by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, on Aug. 18, put him on notice; many veterans have not forgiven him for trashing the Vietnam War back in the 1970s. Some walked out of his speech. A few turned their backs in protest. The majority listened politely but responded with only tepid applause."

...from the NY Daily News. Not a hundred, but more than two.

Let's wait and see what happens this morning, now that the idea is out there that the vets can shun him.

They were on the campus of University of South Florida on Monday.

On our NPR station it was reported that there were 100 students in attendance. Then it interviewed a couple students who attended. One of the students they interviewed was going to vote for Bush, but just wanted to come to the meeting to see what they had to say, LOL.

My grandmother's entire family disappeared into the ovens.

The lady who spoke after Mrs. Bush........her words must have been especially poignant to you. I am so sorry. When I became aware of the world around me, I began to admire Israel. I used to say: "You have to love Israel. That tiny little nation is hated by most of the world, but they do not take shit from anyone." I do not want to live as they do, knowing a homicidal bomber could strike anywhere, anytime. But I do want to live in a country that responds like Israel. That is why kerry cannot be elected.

Congratulations and Thanks to your son. Serving with Clinton as CIC must not have been easy.
