The margin of error is still pretty wide. Remember, nearly every analyst had Charley pegged for Tampa and look how wrong they were.
Eeesh. My mom lives in Ft. Pierce and my step-dad is recuperating from spinal surgery up in Vero Beach. I told Mom on Monday to be prepared to join up with a couple of her friends and get out of Dodge. I'll call her this morning and make certain that she took me seriously. I don't want her to attempt to sit this out in their manufactured home.
I wonder how many more times the strike predictions will change in the next few days.
It should take a few hours, but the wind speed is expected to pick up. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with a CAT 5 on our hands.
Hurricane City is planning on starting live streaming later today, with radio from the Bahamas and the shortwave Hurricane Watch Net. Jim Williams will be live this evening with analysis, phone calls from the affected area and live updates from television stations in South Florida.
I'm an insurance adjuster, and I just got back from Ft. Myers working Condo claims after Charlie. I was amazed how many people do not know their neighbors, even next door or in the other two units of a 4-unit condo building. Half of the the condo owners don't live there this time of the year and about 10% of the ones who do hadn't made it back from evacuating after 7 days. However, most of the people who did know their neighbors had keys to their neighbors' units and had gone in after the storm to check on any damage. Just because water did not pour down through the roof of one unit doesn't mean it didn't in the one next door, and 7 days of wet carpet and pad in a closed condo unit can smell pretty bad, even next door.
General, Sir:
THANK YOU for the Frances Thread.
My Demented Sister and her brood live in the Brandon/Valrico area. Missus and I used to work at the Mouse during the Andrew days, until we relocated back north; lived in the Claremont area.
Sis made it through Charley okay, but she reports the economic damage has been horrific. She works for Publix, and described 3rd-world conditions down there.
I was not on Guard Standby for Charley. I might just be for this one.
Looks like Patrick AFB is a bullseye. Right now they are at HURCON 4. That will change throught the day, I'm sure.
I'm a dummy this morning....
One weather map says 11 pm AST
What does the "A" stand for?
Called Mom last night in Cocoa. She is insisting they are staying put in the new house. I got very upset with her. As we are both Florida natives, she has become too complacent with small hurricanes to get out of the way of a big one.
I have a bad feeling that this storm is gonna come on up and pay Savannah a long overdue visit ......
Viera,Florida checking in! Central Brevard County if you never have heard of it...lol.
The holy excrement factor is taking hold. Folks on the barrier islands are aware of the 18 foot storm surge potential from the northeast quadrant of the storm. This is no drill. The Florida Today newspaper (linking & excerpting prohibited, those jackals) has a graphic showing the "bermuda high" (which is a better-recognized term than "ridge") holding and keeping Frances headed right for us.
The line for wood at the Palm Bay depot runs the full length of the building. People are camped out with umbrellas for protection from the sun. Everyone has a cell phone to their ear! There have been some minor traffic accidents around these home improvement centers. So far supplies of flashlights, batteries, gas cans, duct tape, etc. is plentiful. Figure things will be pretty well picked clean by tonight although there is still time for a resupply.
My instant impression is that these people are the quick and you know what that means for the rest.
NVA plans to get out of dodge.
My family is attending a wedding in Miami this weekend. My wife and kids just arrived there and I am scheduled to fly out tomorrow evening. Can't help thinking that maybe it was irresponsible of me to let my wife and kids go. We are staying at a hotel in Miami and we were supposed to go on a 3 day cruise right after the wedding in Nassau. Does anyone have any advice for us if the hurricane does hit Miaimi? Since my family is there already, I will make every effort to go there and be with them if things do get bad. Like I said, I'm feeling guilty about letting them go and want to be with them if this thing hits. Any advice on how to deal with a hurricane when you are staying at a hotel.
I hope it obliterates Disney in Orlando. I hope there is NO sign it was ever there.
