ARRGHH!! DOUBLEPLUS UNGOOD!! Is this the big sister tagging along to chase Gaston or Floyd II?

The later-run models ((shown on Weather Underground)) have switched back over and are targeting Charleston SC. Someone throw a protective shield over Richmond VA real quick!!!

But maybe then Frances will go over Wilmington NC ((my original SWAG)) and go drown Franklin VA again...

And then again maybe this little waggle in the movement is just sponsored by Home Depot to sell the plywood all the way into the Delmarva... ((as indicated by some other posters, thank you...))

I have a current true story.... Francis related...

my little brother (bless his heart) flew out to CA last Saturday to rescue our brother (his older brother) from drugs and alcohol and living in a trailer park filled with prostitutes, drug addicts, and democrats.

Anyway, he talked him into leaving (LIVING) and comming to FL where he can try to sober up and recover and live. He wouldn't fly so they took off in a pick up truck and are driving back to FL. Well they are in TX as I write this and trying to beat the storm so he can pick up his girlfriend and daughter and leave FL if the hurricain hits.

All prayers welcome. My little brother has a heart of gold.

STATEWIDE: Gov. Jeb Bush declared a state of emergency throughout Florida because of the hurricane, activating the National Guard. The state’s Emergency Operations Center was open.
EVACUATIONS: Palm Beach County issued a mandatory evacuation for about 300,000 residents living along coastal parts of the county effective 2 p.m. Thursday. Brevard County planned to urge up to 185,000 residents to evacuate by 4 p.m. Thursday. Martin County planned to urge up to 7,500 residents to evacuate low-lying areas starting at noon Thursday. Indian River County issued mandatory evacuations for about 6,000 residents in the barrier islands and mobile homes beginning Thursday at noon. In St. Lucie County, special needs residents would begin evacuating to the Port St. Lucie Community Center and the St. Lucie County Civic Center at noon Thursday.
SHELTERS: Palm Beach County was opening shelters at 2 p.m. Thursday. Indian River County was opening shelters at noon Thursday.
NASA: The Kennedy Space Center planned to close on Thursday and Friday to allow workers time to board up their homes and evacuate, if necessary, NASA officials said.
SCHOOLS: Palm Beach County, Miami-Dade, Brevard, Broward, Flagler, St. Lucie, Volusia, Monroe and Indian River counties schools planned to close on Thursday and Friday. Duval, St. Johns and Osceola counties planned to close schools Friday. The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind canceled classes until Tuesday.
UNIVERSITIES: Stetson University will close its campuses in DeLand and Celebration at 10 p.m. Thursday. The University of Central Florida and Nova Southeastern University canceled classes from Thursday through Monday at its Davie, North Miami Beach, and East campuses, and at the Oceanographic Center and Student Education Centers in Kendall, West Palm Beach and Daytona. The University of North Florida canceled classes scheduled to start after noon Thursday, and planned to close its residence halls at 6 p.m. Thursday.
GOVERNMENT OFFICES: St. Lucie County government would be closed at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Brevard and Seminole State Attorney’s Office will be closed Thursday and Friday, expects to reopen Tuesday after Labor Day.
COURTS: Brevard, Flagler, Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, Palm Beach, Putnam, St. Johns, St. Lucie and Volusia counties canceled trials set Thursday and Friday. State appeals courts in West Palm Beach closed for the rest of the week Wednesday afternoon and in Daytona Beach at noon Thursday. The state Supreme Court in Tallahassee canceled two hearings Thursday and said more could follow.
CURFEWS: St. Lucie County said a countywide curfew would be put into effect at 8 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Saturday and will be repeated each night until further notice.
MILITARY: At Patrick Air Force base, C130s and HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters will be flown to a base in Georgia. At Naval Station Mayport, preparations were underway to move ships out of the area.
SPORTS: Volusia County’s high schools moved up their season openers ahead a day or two from Friday night. Saturday’s game between Jackson State and Hampton University has been moved out of Florida and will be played in Hampton, Va. The University of Florida men’s basketball teams’ Labor Day weekend trip to the Bahamas has been canceled and the trip will be made up at a later date after this year.
THEME PARKS: Orlando’s three major theme park resorts — Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and Sea World Orlando — had no plans to close as of Wednesday.
PARKS: Big Cypress National Preserve will be closed beginning Thursday until further notice. Most areas of Everglades National Park will be closed beginning Thursday until further notice.
CRUISES: Carnival Cruise Lines canceled a three-day Bahamian cruise from Miami on Friday and changed the itinerary of a three-day Bahamian cruise Thursday from Port Canaveral, leaving it out at sea. Royal Caribbean International was changing itineraries for several of its ships to avoid the storm. Norwegian Cruise Line’s ship Dawn will now be calling in Freeport, Bahamas, instead of Nassau Thursday before heading back to New York.
AIRLINES: Airlines were telling customers to check their Web sites or call them to check for any delays or cancellations as the hurricane approached. A spokesman advised people who plan to use Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in the next several days to buy their tickets before coming to the airport.
AMTRAK: Southbound Amtrak trains scheduled to end in Miami will instead terminate in Jacksonville on Thursday and Friday. Northbound service from Florida was not expected to be affected Thursday.

If the waggle actually did steer straight, it would be headed for Jacksonville FL by about Sunday, but this storm remains unpredictable.

But after maybe early tomorrow, I will have to leave my midAtlantic town and fuss about other things instead. I hope I don't get more than just a branch or two ON the roof while I am gone ((which occurred to me during Isabel when I was on a road trip last year)).

Right now the way this storm is moving it is VERY HARD to figure out where (or if) to evacuate. Inland? Well, in South Florida there really is no inland. 20 miles West of the ocean is Everglades and no place to stay there. Plus I think Alligator Alley will be so jammed full of cars that you could be trapped there in the middle of hurricane winds. South? Well, the hurricane could also take a left turn right into where you are going. Also if you go north, the hurricane can follow you that way. I think there will be a lot of last minute decisions.

I've been watching her IR loops for the past few days and have noticed an undulation or cycle of the area of highest intensity. Throughout the day today she has been looking a little ragged on visible and the eye wall has wobbled. On the IR you can see the highest intensities (maroon color) of the storm get tighter but increase around the eye right now in the above loop. Whereas earlier today there was much less of this color in the storm.

The cycle seems to be about 20 hrs. When those areas grow in intensity that's when the eye looks perfect and loops show little wobble. My guess is that if the storm is to grow in intensity (higher winds - lower pressure) it's at the more compact stage in the cycle. I'm also willing to guess that this contraction happening at night is somewhat good news since the water is a little cooler. I would welcome criticism of my theory. So let's hope she makes landfall in the outward or less intense part of the cycle because she has too much western momentum to move far enough north to miss.
