SUSPECT ARRESTED IN VICIOUS ATTACK ON COP
The New York Post ^ | 09/01/2004 | PATRICK GALLAHUE, ZACH HABERMAN and BILL SANDERSON

A suspect was arrested last night in the vicious beating of a cop at a protest Monday, a law-enforcement source said.

Jamal Holiday of Manhattan, who turns 20 today, will likely be spending his birthday in jail for assaulting Detective William Sample Jr., according to the source.

Sample, meanwhile, was on the mend at home.

The 10-year veteran who usually investigates taxi-business crimes, was badly bruised and suffered internal injuries in the attack that Mayor Bloomberg called "outrageous."

People thought that the new brownshirts would have armbands and have an oom-pa-pa band. But they carry "hate Bush" signs and a green flag.

Any NYC-area Freepers around that could comment on whether this could swing enough of the city's votes to put the state into play for the president? I'm not trying to sound crass by thinking that the attack could be a good thing politically, but these things have a way of affecting some voters.

Um, no. Sorry.

I've said it before, I'll say it again---a Jesus-Moses ticket couldn't win NYC unless they ran as Democrats.

I am not that optimistic about upstate NY this year either. For the next two months, Bush should concentrate on states that really ARE in play.

What I would like to know is why wasn't this a**hole arrested on the spot? They just said on Fox that he was picked up at another demonstration, the next day, wearing the same clothes.

"Benjamin, of San Francisco, said she borrowed "a friend of a friend's" floor pass to gain access to the Garden."

Good, find out who gave it to her and throw them both in jail.

Medea Benjamin alert.

I had no idea this happened, it was not shown on camera (at least not on FOX). This perhaps explained why Cheney didn't look too happy for a while there. He was probably very angry about the security breach, with the First Family in the building and the President on his way next.

I find this very disturbing. If Medea Benjamin could get onto the convention floor so easily (she should be very recognizable, having pulled this stunt so many times before), an assassin could do the same thing. Whoever gave her their credentials should be in huge trouble. I hope.

So you're saying that President Bush would only put NY into play if he replaced VP Cheney with bin Laden?

I totally agree, and I think kcvl's theory may be right that it was a friend in the press who got her in. Heck, Medea was able to bring in a banner, too! How scary is that?

Check this out:

The woman, 51-year-old Medea Benjamin of San Francisco, said in a telephone interview that she had been waving a protest sign and yelling at Cheney as he sat several yards away. She said she was a freelance journalist and had entered the convention using press credentials.

I'm saying the city will only pull the lever for a Democrat this year.

If the race was between Bush and Osama...in Manhattan they'd still go for the Democrat. In Brooklyn and Queens, the vote might be split. But the Democrat would still come out ahead.

Sad, I know.

"What a pig Jamal is if he did this.

Shouldn't be a problem to make the ID from the video. When you watch the video on broadcast and a good monitor, it appears this is the big black guy in black and white clothing, at the very beginning applying a few vicious kicks on the cop. He backs off to the right of the camera when a short cop comes into view from the left, moving to the center of the assault.

I'm always amazed at how the perps quickly become model citizens when caught, saying "sir, yes sir...".

And I know it's not PC, but sadly I'm NOT amazed that the perps are usually young men of color.

Benjamin said she was handcuffed and questioned in a basement security room for several hours before being released.

Ah. So much for consequences.

I've been harassed at these things a few times, and always by some WHITE guy.

Which is not surprising, because as a rule the protest attendees are overwhelmingly WHITE.

Impeached X42 threw out a winning bid and gave the contract to Haliburton.

Glad he did too!

My son served in the USArmy during i42 and let me tell you, that our only comfort was in knowing that Haliburton and Dick Cheney were making sure he got the supplies needed, on time, within cost, and of the best quality.

Maybe the A stands for Abner Louima? If it doesn't now, it probably will within the next 12-24 hours.

Wouldn't it be a good stroke if VP Cheney or some other GOP official visited the victim of this crime?
