Re: your post #3139:

[You know, as a social conservative, I have this observation.

It seems that the social conservatives who get to speak end up talking not about the eminently defensible social cons agenda, but about "compassion." I am fed up with that. It seems that because they (er, we) are religious right that we have to show our our faith leads us to be compassionate....they are scared about being socially conservative I think.

Which means also that social conservatives spend a lot of time apologizing for the social conservative agenda such that our fiscal/economic agenda gets shortchanged.

Arnold, on the other hand, is not a social conservative. He's a liberal. But on the fiscal issues and on economic freedom, he didn't come across as a moderate at all, but really a libertarian. This was refreshing. He had the guts to call the democrats socialists (reference to HH in 68). He had the guts to denounce communism and socialism in Europe and making it clear that socialism is the opposite of freedom.

Thus, in the end, Arnold actually did a better job of carrying my agenda than most other Repubs, including those who are socially conservative. ]
..................

Maybe the best post I've read in my short FR career. WHEN will we stop trying to apologise for what we believe? I agree w/Rush that when we run as unabashed conservatives we win. Maybe we're guilty of "the soft bigotry of low expectations" of our fellow Americans.

My grandmother is 93, sharp as a tack, highly educated not easily pleased.
She loved the twins and thought "they were witty and a breath of fresh air"
I dont know why other people are judging them harshly !
And Jenna was brave because its well known she hates the spotlight.
Cut them some slack. I doubt anyone posting aspersions against their characters has ever spoken on an international scale live in person.

I agree that they are all-American (and cute!) and wholesome--although the Sex in the City comment to Gammie was improper.

I just didn't feel they were funny when they were trying to be funny. Their jokes fell flat, their delivery was canned, and they just came across as, well, airheads.

You think I'm wrong, fine. Ain't America great?

Yeah, the Kerry girls are older, but I think the Bush girls could have done better.

When you think about it-- Barbara was fine, Jenna just overwhelms her. Jenna is the one that blew it, IMHO.

The election is serious business

First, I think you have the wrong poster since the above is NOT mine.

Second, had Arnold said something then acted like an idiot, you might have a point.

OK, everybody! I just got home from work and don't know which channels to tune to for various re-airings. Should I just stick with the C-Span fare, or were any of the shows on Fox worth watching later tonight when they re-air? (I'm usually up 'til 3 or so) I know a bunch of you have been surfing the TV channels tonight, so do you have any recommendations for me? Thanks. -- Mockingbird

Has anybody seen Peggy Noonan on any of these pol yack shows lately?

She can usually be seen tossing back her hair in that way she does during the political season.

Jealousy is unattractive and you reek of it.
You deride the twins because you're pea green with envy.

While I am truly sorry for your loss sir, I don't understand how I was supposed to know that.

However sir, losing your child does not give you license to be mean to the Bush twins. They were just like every other normal young person that age.

They were supposed to appeal to their age group and introduce daddy. Not entertain us.

"Agreed! On top of that, these young ladies aren't trashing their parents, writing hateful
books about them or being nasty about members of their family! What a refreshing concept
from anyone in the news.

I know they scored points with three 25 year old men around here. Let's face it, they also got
in a good one about the hamster.hades of the Reagan era...."

I hear you. These girls were definately not of THAT mindset.

How does Ronnie the Lesser redeem himself?

Michael Reagan showed his LOVE and respect, in the same way the Bush daughters did tonight.

Enough said. They're in front of millions of people ( I would've lost my cookies!) and they did a great job for people a lot younger than I am.

Kudos to the Bush girls.

I'm gonna get some shuteye!

Yep. It's pretty sad when Ron Silver talks more like a Republican than Joe Scarborough!
