August 31, 2004 -- A cop was in serious condition with head injuries today after he was knocked off his scooter and stomped by protestors at an illegal march, police said. Several thousand people took part in the march conducted without a permit by the group Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign which started at the United Nations, then moved south on Second Avenue, west on 23rd Street and back uptown on Eighth Avenue. The violence happened at 30th Street and Eighth Avenue, where police barricades were set up to protect Madison Square Garden.
Police spokesman Paul Browne, who saw what happened, said that after protesters knocked the officer off the scooter, they "kicked and punched" him.
The cop was in serious condition at St. Vincent's Hospital.

These "Poor People" are so poor that they somehow managed to drive or fly all the way to New York from
all parts of the country.
Maybe they should be called Poverty Pimps For Kerry.

Hey man, they're just trying to bring peace and justice to like, the U.S., dude.

Kerry is going to end up losing even NY if this cr*p keeps up.
The regular folk are not amused, I assure you.

...and so it begins. Unfortunately, the anarchists in NYC for the convention will probably cause more violence before it's over.

Poor People's Economic Human Rights CampaignSounds like they have money. Does the cop have a lawyer? I hope he sues them into non-existence. If not, he should go after individual members.

"...will probably cause more violence before it's over."With a weenie like Bloomberg in charge, it won't be hard for them to do. He rolled out the red carpet for these thugs and I fully expect him to stay in character. The country will treated to the spectacle of a mayor permitting open season on his own cops.

They've got a whole list of responsible people to sue.
Go get 'em, officer.

I guess the protestors weren't satisfied with the free buttons and shopping discounts the good "Mayor" supplied them.
I guarantee this wouldn't be happening if the bastion of liberalism, NYC, permitted concealed carry.
As Jim Quinn always says, the 2nd Amendment ain't about duck hunting.
