Who's The Boo's
Honing the Passage ^ | August 31, 2004 | David K. Kittel

In case you had bought into some of the chatter out there that the Kerry Girls weren't the one'w booed at the MTV awards comes this from WorldNetDaily:

Vanessa Kerry, daughter of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, says she was "scared" by a round of boos Sunday night at the MTV Music Video Awards, but is glad she pushed her father's cause. "I was scared out of my mind," she told CNN after appearing on stage. "I mean, I grabbed my sister, and I thought, what is happening? And – but it doesn't matter, because we're fighting for something that I believe in so strongly. I will go up there and hear the whole arena boo if it means connecting with one person"

Gee, girls, it sure is scary when you grace the "little people" with your presence and they don't fall at your feet.

How annoying. I don't think they should have been booed, but I think the booing was about bringing politics into the situation, similar to Mikey Moore at the Oscars.

But their horror at being booed by people who don't agree with them shows how sheltered and priviledged these two are. I bet they love hearing about W or republicans being booed, but that just doesn't happen to THEIR kind of people!

They weren't 'booing', they were screaming 'show us your boobs'.

You know........you're projecting opposite positions in the same sentence.

No I'm not. I'm saying they shouldn't have been booed. Period. I am also saying, the booing was not about their being democrats or Kerry's kids, but about them even bringing up politics into that situation. Period.

How is that projecting opposite positions?

they're democrats, what else should have been done to them. Remember we have to keep it legal

I think booing was the perfect reaction from the crowd.

You seem to recognize the appropriateness of booing someone for interjecting politics where politics don't belong, but at the same time you don't think they should have been booed?

That doesn't make any sense to me.  But then again, maybe I'm more intolerant of it that you are.  Frankly, I'm freakin' sick of people - conservative or liberal - who think they need to interject their politics into everything.

I tend to be more aggressive toward liberals about it because, let's face it, liberals are much more likely to spout their blarney at inappropriate times.  But, I swear to God that if I went to hear Beethoven's 6th, and the conductor turned around between the 3rd and 4th movements and said something like "Be sure to vote for Bush this election" I'd stand up in the audience and yell "Shut the f#ck up, turn around and conduct".

I'm soooooooo tired of people who think there's no "inappropriate" time to talk politics:  a good booing is what they're asking for and deserve.

"You seem to recognize the appropriateness of booing someone for interjecting politics where politics don't belong, but at the same time you don't think they should have been booed?" Are you being intentionally obtuse? I said it in plain language--I don't agree with the booing, but I understand why the folks did it. I don't know why you feel the need to make something up when I'm saying it as plainly as I can. I don't agree with people who think broccolli tastes good, but I understand that some people do think so. If you can't discern the difference between agreeing/disagreeing with something and understanding why someone does something, there's no use discussing it with you. That doesn't make any sense to me. But then again, maybe I'm more intolerant of it that you are. Frankly, I'm freakin' sick of people - conservative or liberal - who think they need to interject their politics into everything. "I tend to be more aggressive toward liberals about it because, let's face it, liberals are much more likely to spout their blarney at inappropriate times. Which is precisely what I said. So why are you still arguing about it? "I'm soooooooo tired of people who think there's no "inappropriate" time to talk politics: a good booing is what they're asking for and deserve." Whatever. My point is that seems to be WHY those folks were booing--I understand WHY they were booing. I am not into booing people; those people did, and I understand why. Get it? If not, it's not important enough to keep talking about.
