Vandals cause $1,000,000 damage to Wal-Mart building under construction
WLOS ^ | 8/29/04 | staff

Posted on 08/29/2004 4:46:53 AM PDT by Rebelbase

This happened in Asheville, NC where the hippies and tree huggers have been fighting against the proposed Wal-Mart super center for years (link). Somone repeatedly drove a dumptruck trough the walls of the building under construction.

The article from WLOS:

Vandals hit the construction site of the Wal-Mart Supercenter on Swannanoa River Road overnight. Someone drove heavy construction equipment into the building, creating nearly one million dollars worth of damage.

The vandalism will push the opening of the controversial store back about a month. Workers say security around the site will be upgraded to prevent this sort of incident from happening again.

Our professional protester hippies cost taxpayers a million bucks or so to re-route a new highway (they tried to stop it altogether) because there was a "rare" moss on some of the trees in the planned route. Bullsh!t! Every time they have an BS excuse. You and I both know they make it up. They just like to be monkey wrenches in the capitalist machinery. They make good money at it too - one was caught in a sting taking bribes for NOT protesting. It is glorified extortion. They'll cost you money in legal fees and make huge asses of themselves for weeks, or you can slip them a few thousand and they'll go away.

I'm sorry to hear that Asheville has changed so much since I left there in 1966 to go to college. I did see the articles about the Naked Bike Ride this summer and was disappointed at what Asheville has turned into. Some say it's the half-backs but your post says a lot about the causes.

On another sad note I am sickened at what they're doing to the mountain tops especially those visible along I-40 near Marion. While I am not an enviro-wacko I think that it is possible to develop my beloved mountains without shaving the tops off mountains!

"check the granola and hemp crowd......my short list"

That's 3/4 of the city up there.

Keep acting stupid if you like. I'll ignore you for the rest of this thread.

What part of my SPECIFIC MENTION of the Wal-Mart in Alabaster, Alabama did you not comprehend?

Look up anarchy - it is the violent overthrow of a government. Does he sound like a local hardware store owner, or a commie hippie?

Instead of sitting at your computer, whining to me, why don't you confront these folks and expose them for what they are? Get the community behind you, make them feel unwelcome and they'll leave. (or burn your house down)

"They have their own crew(s) that are experienced in Wal-Mart's particular layout(s)."

Are they Chinese crews?

I used to operate a D-9. That'll do it every time. All you have to do is take out the corners and push.

Here is one that should be near and dear to your heart. Just TRY to put up a cell phone tower within 10 miles of Athens, Ohio.

I did. I built the original Cellular One in Athens, OH, along about 1993. We didn't have any trouble finding tower sites then. What have you let happen in Athens since 1993?

These people aren't worried about you. They want the stone age back. And you're siding with them

Huh? Are you nuts? I'm talking about the use of eminent domain by private, for profit companies, and you are talking about hippies invading and trying to take over your community. What are you smokin'?

BTW, is Late Night Pizza still in business? That was some good pizza!

STFU. Old news. Get a life.

So, you can't argue your point logically, so I'm supposed to just shut TF up? You are a real piece of work, pal. Me thinks we have a Liberal in our midst. Typical Liberal tactic, can't discuss issues rationally, so they resort to insults....

Yeah, whatever you say, my mistake of not ignroring your sorry ass as I earlier replied.

You are a fool for pursuing an argument you lost last week. Get over it, you have no meaning to me.

I'll go back to ignoring you. I promise.

Your liberal buddy,
RB.

I drive a dry-bulk tanker .. cement for batch plants and related product.
I delivered for about a manth last year to a Wal-Mart site that was in the foundation stage.
The overseer of the project was a company from Texas and local work was farmed out by bid.

Not union work as far as I can understand, but a dedicated company used by Wal-Mart. I don't know if they did anything else 'in between' Wal-Marts.

Uh, yeah... You were the one whining about WalMart, and trying to tell me that it wasn't hippies doing the protesting. Eminent domain wasn't even a topic of conversation. You're changing the subject. Instead of whining about it, why don't YOU do something to stop it? It goes both ways. The point I was making is that I knew who was protesting. What have I let happen? If you're not joking, that sounds like a Dem hyperbole. Send me a few hundered thou for legal expenses to fight them and I'll make you proud. By the way, I sit here and do nothing as I am disabled and poor. I have no contest in fighting thousands of hippies and their lawyers. Innovate and beat Wal-Mart, and stop whining yourself. You were the one with the sob story.

Again, you started the whining. Do something about it yourself, it's you're business that's involved, not mine.

Thermal sounds like the crybaby lib to me. The one problem with FR - always a social misfit around spoiling for an argument. If they can't find a logical one, they twist your statements to make one. Yopu and I were talking about anti-business hippies, and when he loses that argument he contends it was about eminent domain and "mom and pop" businesses - something you and I weren't even talking about. If a "straw-man" argument isn't a lib tactic, what is? Now it's MY fault my county is full of hippies, and I'M a whiner. He's the baby who cried about his business suffering due to WM. A real business person would adapt and overcome, not blame his failures on someone else.

BTW, dunno about Late Night. I don't do business in Athens, except to support Wal-Mart and the one gun shop.
