Large Fish Catches Boy in Minnesota -

DULUTH, Minn.

An 11-year-old boy was out hunting frogs on Island Lake when he became the prey. A large fish, probably a muskellunge or a northern pike, attacked the boy about 5 p.m. Thursday as he and his young sister were wading in a foot of water.

The resulting wounds on Mason DeRosier's feet and hands required 11 stitches to close.

Mason's father, Richard DeRosier, was in a paddle boat just offshore during the attack. DeRosier, a Lake County deputy sheriff, said he was facing the children when he saw a huge swirl in the water.

"Before I can say 'Holy moley! Look at that!', all of a sudden the swirl is by their feet," he said.

Mason said he saw the fish splash just offshore. "It was like, maybe, 5 feet in front of us," Mason said. "Then it splashed right at my foot and bit me. It hurt."

It didn't let go. "I smacked it in the head and tried to pry it off my foot," Mason said. "He let go, but he bit my hand."

The sister wasn't hurt.

Mason was taken in back to the family's cabin to wash the wounds, then he was off to the hospital.

He received eight stitches in his left hand and three in the bottom of his right foot. He has numerous other bite marks across the top of his foot, his dad said.

"I'll bet he has 20 cuts on his foot and 10 cuts on his hand," Richard DeRosier said.

Poor boy. Big reminder to try to keep one eye out for wildlife.

We have gar here in Texas. Their teeth jut out of the side of their heads like a serrated razor. They're not KNOWN to attack, but just having them get too close can slice you like crazy!

Northern Pike grow to more than 50 inches, and they have lots of teeth. When they're in the mood, they will attack anything. I've caught hundreds of them on fishing trips to Canada, including many trophy size (42 inches or more in Manitoba).

Yep, I remember one shredding my dads leg once. It was a needlenose gar. It didnt attack but was just flopping around when he reeled it in when it got him. So i just cut my line if I have no pliers long enough.

I dont know about fishing up north, the fish attack kids. Heard you better not get the bears best fishing hole either. And if a bear wants your fish you better give it up.

Here in North Texas I guess fire ants and water moccasins are the biggest threat. Maybe a snapping turtle if he got one of your toes..or aliigators in some parts.

But in 2 weeks Ill be surf fishing on the Texas beach, just saw a pic of a 9' lemon shark someone caught. Ill take my line out then get back on safe, dry land and wait for the bite. Bull reds are my target. Once reeled in just a huge head, a shark ate over half of it it as I was bringing it in. a 20 lber..

No kidding, they must have eaten most of the smaller prey in the lake and are making a move for land.

See, this is what comes of having these outfits like PETA around. You try to treat these animals ethically, and they turn right around and try to eat your kids.

I had an animal in my house last night. It was a mosquito. When it comes to mosquitos, PETA can go to hell. Mosquitos have no ethics. That thing will not only bite me, it will suck my blood if I give it half a chance. So I rolled up a newspaper so that a picture of John Kerry was in front, and I showed it to the mosquito... at very high speed.

Here's a little newspaper article I have taped to the photo of me and a 15-pound Northern Pike in Northern Minnesota:

"Birdwatchers who had traveled to glimpse a rare red-necked phalarope at a Leicestershire, England, reservoir watched in horror as a 4-foot pike emerged from the water and gobbled the bird down."

After catching the fish I was also a bit nervous about swimming!

Don't laugh.

Years ago, I was fishing for smallmouth bass in a local dam, caught a muskie, (legal BTW) and the SOB bit me in the soft spot between my thumb and forefinger when I tried to get the hook out.

I was so p!ssed I decked him. Then ate him.
