Friday's NY Times: An Unprecedented Bush Hate-Fest [Freeper Report]
NY Times ^ | August 27, 2004 | Several

Posted on 08/28/2004 5:30:20 AM PDT by Pharmboy

Last week, when the Times published their huge front page story (complete with diagrams) that purported to show the interconnections between the Swiftees and Bush operatives, I cancelled my subscription. Although used to the paper's European socialist slant on life, this latest outrage was so over the top as far as I was concerned, that it became the last straw (what outraged me was that they NEVER actually reported or looked into what the Swiftees were saying and they had also never looked for connections between the lefty 527s and Kerry).

But, I was unprepared for yesterday's paper (yeah, I still buy Tuesday's for the science and Friday's for the movie reviews). The level to which this edition had sunk was, IMO, a new low.

The OP-ED pages:

Lead Editorial: "Abu Ghraib, the Next Step"
The two reports were not enough; these have damaged our reputation, etc. etc. And, how many days did the Times make this a page one story?

Letters
Under the heading:"Who Will Answer for Abu Ghraib" six letters that have a similar point of view.

Right hand columns page:

"When Actions Speak Louder Than Medals" by Larry Heinemann. A lot of people got medals for very little; Kerry was a hero. End of story.

"A War Without End" by Neil Sheehan. "Seeking to convince voters that he would make a better CIC in the war on terror than Mr. Bush [note the "Mr." and not "President] has been, Mr. Kerry placed his status as a Vietnam war hero front and center, only to find his reputation under assault by a group calling itself the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. As well as can be determined, the accusations are unfounded and Mr. Kerry deserved his medals." Can you believe these lies??

"The View From The Boat" by Judith Droz Keyes. The wife of a Swift Boat Vet who was KIA in '69 and served with Kerry, she writes about how if this (Naval Academy graduate and brave hero) guy were still alive he would back Kerry.

"Where Is The Shame?" by Bob Herbert. A democrat apologist uses the Max Cleland Crawford visit to revisit old stories about Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz and Ashcroft. No--it is THEY who are shameless.

"America's Failing Health" by Paul Krugman. Bush bad; Kerry good. Bush dumb; Kerry smart. The usual Krugmania with healthcare as today's backdrop.

OK media fans--do you think this is it?? NO--let's look at the Weekend Performing Arts Section:

[filling up 2/3 of front page]Theater Review: Nightmare Without Hope Or Logic by Ben Brantley. A big review with big pictures of a Brit play that's come here on Guantanamo terror prisoners. 'Nuff said.

[still page one]The TV Watch: Portraits of Bush, With Hazy Spots by Alessandra Stanley. Here's a bit: "A man born to the highest privelege and unlimited opportunities deliberately turned away and chose the most familiar, unadventurous paths." Incredible.

[page 10]Film Review: "Postulating a Dark Side to a Bush Operative's Work" by Stephen Holden. A review of "Bush's Brain," a movie based on the book by Moore and Slater. Karl Rove = Devil Incarnate; installment # 178.

On the same page, there was a review of "Brother's in Arms" the documentary of Kerry's Swift Boat Crew. The review said the movie gives the lie to the Truth Swiftees.

In the Weekend Fine Arts, they have a huge story on all the anti-Bush and anti-Republican art going on in NYC now. A highbrow hate fest.

I've been here for a while, and I think this is my second vanity post, but I could not resist.

Why would this be, you might ask?

ANSWER: The New York Times' Editorial Staff Emma Gilbey
(shared limos and beds with Kerry)
is the present wife of New York Times' Editor Bill Keller.

Hence the SOP of pro-Kerry manifacture of "news".

Last week...I cancelled my subscription

I canceled my subscription to the SF Chron about 8 years ago. Feels good to vote with your wallet doesn't it?

I did not know that (I work with a [reasonable] liberal guy who lives in Keller's building and knows him). Can't wait to pass on your info to him. Thanks...

I cancelled my subscription to the Times after their coverage of the intercepted phone call of the strategy session between Boehner and Gingrich overheard and recorded by "Ma and Pa Kettle" (the Martins) on their Radio Shack device. There were 3 front page cover stories on this incident, one by the notorious Adam Clymer.

Their consistent "flood the zone" attacks on Gingrich -- all vituperative and yet bizarrely flimsy -- made it impossible for this long-term subscriber (15 years at that point) to continue to support their excuse for a newspaper.

I keep going back to Rick Brookheiser's description: "It's the 'Advocate' [gay publication] with stock quotes and international news."

The NY Times should be listed as a 527 organization... no that's right, they're the media so they have "freedom of the press". But not for the rest of us. First Amendment, what's that? Easy solution, everybody becomes "the press".

Wait till tomorrow, Pharboy. The book review promises a round-up of Bush haters "All the President's Critics," including Maureen Dowd, James Wolcott, and Graydon Carter.

What took you so long? It's not like the NYT changed their stripes for this election. I canceled my subscription to the Houston Comical years ago (and they're not even as blatant as the NYT) and I don't miss any of it. I get all my news online, it's faster (papers present yesterdays news) and cheaper.

I cancelled my sub to the LA Times around 8 years ago; I still get the Sunday paper for the misc sections, but never fail to peruse the Op-Ed to see what the enemy is up to.

Just going to make it all that much sweeter come the morning of November 3rd, when they're forced to headline the news of GWB winning a second term, and TerAYza's pool boy having to stumblebum his way back to Kennedyland. :)

The Advocate with stock quotes...Brilliant! Yet another reason to love Brookheiser (I am a George Washington nut like he is).

Funny thing about the Times and Gingrich- when he was acquited by the IRS, thier story was on page A19- a little 3 sidebar column. This way they could claim they covered the story.
