Friends and Family to Honor a Fallen Soldier
August 27, 2004
Andrew Fefer
On Saturday, a fallen soldier's family and friends will honor his memory with a tribute across the highways and skies of Western Wisconsin.
The ceremony is in memory of 1LT Jeremy Wolfe, a soldier from Menomonie who lost his life in a mid-air collision between two Black Hawk helicopters over Iraq.
Two Black Hawk helicopters flown by two of Wolfe's comrades arrived in Menomonie on Friday night. They'll eventually fly above a memorial motorcycle ride from Menomonie to Cadott.
"In my short time in the Army, I probably spent more time with him airborne than any other person," said Heath Holt, who is one of this weekend's pilots. "I had no idea the Army would be issuing me a best friend out of the whole deal, so it means a lot."
The proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward memorial scholarships in Jeremy's name.
I live in Hawaii... but I'd be there otherwise.
Is there a ping list for fallen soldiers' home towns? If there is one for Hawaii, I'd like to be on it.
Wow, this is going right by my house, is there any info. as far as time?
Thanks.
Bump!
Just saw the blackhawks fly over. You know that strange feeling of saddness and pride, well I have it, teared up and everything.
