Glenn urges Bush to condemn swift boat ads
CARRIE SPENCER
Associated Press
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Retired U.S. Sen. John Glenn said Friday that President Bush should take time in his Ohio visit Saturday to condemn ads attacking Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's military record in the Vietnam War.
Political strategists say the Kerry campaign needs to fight back against the ads questioning his rescue of a crew mate and the wounds that won him three purple hearts, but runs the risk of tiring voters eager to hear about jobs and education.
The ads by the group Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ran for just one week in three states but have generated intense media publicity, and polls this week showed Kerry slipping slightly.
-snip-
Ohioan Pat Runyon, who introduced Glenn, told about 200 supporters at a union hall that he went on a nighttime raid with Kerry on a three-man boat in Vietnam, and that Kerry returned fire even after getting shot.

John Kerry is really...Rambo.
Didn't Novak's column knock this guy out of the water today?
Question for Runyon: How come Kerry waited until all of the witnesses had left Nam before he applied for his Purple Heart for being "shot"?
May have seen a different movie.
Runyon was one of the guys (allegedly) on the whaler that night along with (allegedly) a guy named Zaldonis.
One of the said he didn't know if they received fire, the other said he didn't even know that kerry was wounded until they got back.
The only one with an unambigous story is Schacte, the training officer, who says he was on the boat and that there was no enemy fire.
Maybe Nixon sent Kerry a BB gun for Christmas when Kerry was in Cambodia. Almost put his eye oout with it.
Busd did but not good enough for the MSM.
This from an thread earlier today by JohnHuang2.

Speaking to reporters on Monday from his ranch in Crawford, Tex., "President Bush repeated his condemnation of unregulated money that he said was 'pouring' into the political process," the Washington Post reports. "But," says the Post, while Bush denounced the ad by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, "he stopped short of denouncing the ad," saying only that he denounces all ads, including the ad by the Swift Boat Veterans. "Pressed several times by reporters" on whether he would denounce the Swift Vet ad, Bush refused, notes the Post. "Bush would only say: 'That means (I denounce the Swift Vet ad) and every other ad. I'm denouncing all the stuff." The Post says this proves he secretly agrees with the Swift Vet ad because he denounced it and every other ad but "stopped short of denouncing" it. Got that?
What part of "John Kerry served admirably in Viet Nam and all 527 groups should be shut down" don't you understand?
And we know what his price was.
I have a dumb question: where is the shrapnel suppose to be in Kerry's body?
Yes, Bush should definitely take advice from a guy who abandoned his principles the minute he hit Washington.
Polls showed Kerry's standing among veterans falling from maybe around 60 per cent to 19 per cent. I'd say that's more than slipping 'slightly'. and considering that many vets have retired to the great state of Florida, and have families who vote and friends who vote...Kerry has a lot to worry about.
Busd=Bush LOL
Now that's funny. :>
Another fact to remember about the spaceman, it that he had his hands in the till just like McCain in the savings and loan scandal.
Ah, now it makes sense. Thanks.
They've rolled out Glenn to counter Bob Dole. Nothing else has worked for them. This won't either.
In his thigh, according to his [sarcasm] very modest, self-effacing ads... [/sarcasm]
Glenn sold out to the toonmeister with is shuttle ride.
Shot both his scruples clean off.
John Glenn is a turd.
I took great pleasure in voting against him.
