Glenn urges Bush to condemn swift boat ads
CARRIE SPENCER
Associated Press
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Retired U.S. Sen. John Glenn said Friday that President Bush should take time in his Ohio visit Saturday to condemn ads attacking Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's military record in the Vietnam War.
Political strategists say the Kerry campaign needs to fight back against the ads questioning his rescue of a crew mate and the wounds that won him three purple hearts, but runs the risk of tiring voters eager to hear about jobs and education.
The ads by the group Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ran for just one week in three states but have generated intense media publicity, and polls this week showed Kerry slipping slightly.
-snip-
Ohioan Pat Runyon, who introduced Glenn, told about 200 supporters at a union hall that he went on a nighttime raid with Kerry on a three-man boat in Vietnam, and that Kerry returned fire even after getting shot.

The only one with an unambigous story is Schacte, the training officer, who says he was on the boat and that there was no enemy fire. Correct and there was no after action report nor was there a casualty report filed.

Correct and there was no after action report nor was there a casualty report filed. Good points. I had forgotten about that.
As the trainee, kerry wouldn't have been able to file them without Schacte's approval as the training officer.

"I spent more time on John Kerry's boat than any other crewmember.
John Kerry hasn't been honest - he has been deceitful.
John Kerry claims that he spent Christmas, in 1968, in Cambodia.
And that is catagorically a lie. Not in December. Not in January.
We were never in Cambodia on a secret mission. Ever."

- Al Hubbard, proven fraud who never set foot in Viet Nam.
The only Vietnamese he ever met was
when he was collaborating with the North Vietnamese in Paris
on the American Communist Party's nickel.
John Kerry's explanation:
"He (Hubbard) simply exaggarated his particular position.
But nobody knew it at the time. And those things happen."

John Glenn is a sychophant.
He's been glomming on to the Kennedys for years, and won re-election by dragging them to Ohio to stump for him.
Hell, I remember when he put out that photo of his water skiing with Jackie O one election year.

Thanks, John Glenn! All we need is one moron per day to keep this story alive in the MSM!

Gardner was not on the Boston Whaler that night. Schachte was the OIC. Kerry was on training mission. The two enlisted guys on the boat (Zaldonis and Runyon) that night don't remember that Schachte was on there. But logic would dictate, you don't put a new officer on a training mission without an experienced officer being present. Schacte's call sign was Batman. Kerry's was Robin. POW!!! Schachte ran into Kerry in the halls of Congress about ten years ago. He called out "Robin" and Kerry called out "Batman". Kerry said let's get together for dinner but it never happened... according to Schachte.

I keep waiting to hear about all the research they gathered on how space travel affects people his age.
And, because of that research, all the medical advances I am sure were derived from that little junket.
I just love watching my tax dollars at work.

"As a brother in arms with John Kerry, I feel these ads attack me, too." Have it your way. Kerry is the one who attacked you, though.

JFK got shot during a nighttime raid? And did not receive credit for it? The MSM are not even going to look at this eye-witness testimony. All in all this is a Trump your Dole with a Glenn and a wwwwwin with more eyewitness testimony backing up JFK.
Give me a break!! What next? JFK in patriotic leotards with a big A one his chest(I apologize to anybody who suffered injury while forming a mental picture).
The Swiftees are causing a Rat breakdown. Keep up the pressure.

How in the hell did John Glenn become a multi-multi-millionaire after retiring from the military at the rank of Col., and serving in the Senate? And how does this fit in with the Founders concepts of military or civil service? </rhetorical questions>

Glenn is a disgrace to Ohio in particular (my home state) and the Marine Corp. in general. He could have had such a memorable legacy had he quit immediately BEFORE running as a DemocRAT.
To: ambrose
Retired U.S. Sen. John Glenn said Friday that President Bush should take time in his Ohio visit Saturday to condemn ads attacking Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's military record in the Vietnam War. This morning on Fox Carl Cameron came on to announce that the Kerry Kamp gave a heads up on Glenn's "major speech" on this issue. Then Fox went and took a few minutes live where he said the above and added the business about Ginsberg as "evidence" of the Swift Vets being a front for the Bush campaign.
This is the first I'm hearing about this:
Ohioan Pat Runyon, who introduced Glenn, told about 200 supporters at a union hall that he went on a nighttime raid with Kerry on a three-man boat in Vietnam, and that Kerry returned fire even after getting shot.
To: ambrose
Why is it that Democrats only believe that vets who have shrines made to them in enemy war museums deserve freedom of speech? Don't vets who aren't traitors have first amendment rights also? Where is the ACLU during all this?

It's sad that Glenn would sully his name like this, too bad.He lost is honor and good name long ago during the Thompson hearings. He was vile and digusting and I will never forgive him or respect him again unless he admits what he did and cries for mercy. I am not one bit surprised he did this.
To: hershey
Really! I had not read that. That is devastating.
