A bit off subject, but when did "a person of interest" replace the word "suspect"?

Is this more PC crap?

The side effect of PC is public language that is so vague as to be virtually meaningless.

I thought of the same thing. Not so PC as it is a lawyer up you a$$ in court for mistreating a suspect. This came out of CA during the Simpson debacle. LE and the DA squeezed hard and let him slip through their fingers. Person of interest is taking things slow, a wait and see approach to investigation and collection of evidence, testimonies, etc. Heck, LE knows the courts are slow anyway, why loose it to being overzealousness to convict?</p>
