General Merrill A. "Tony" McPeak "served for over 35 years in the US Air Force, culminating in four years as Chief of Staff from 1990 through 1994. He retired with the rank of 4-Star General. General McPeak has served as President of McPeak & Associates, an aerospace consulting company, since his retirement from active service. He is President and COO of Kitcomm Communications, Ltd, and Chairman of the Board of ECC, Intl., a publicly traded defense contractor. General McPeak also serves on the Boards of Directors of Tektronix, Inc., Trans World Airlines, Inc., and Centerspan Communications, Inc."
"McPeak was a career fighter pilot who flew two years with the Thunderbirds and 269 missions over Vietnam. He now makes his home in Oregon and is a board director of several companies." May 2003
War in Iraq
"Disquiet among many about the diplomacy of the current American Administration includes the former Air force Chief of Staff, who directed the air campaign in Operation Desert Storm. Following that campaign, McPeak insisted on developing improved guided weapons to enable more precise targeting and limiting casualties from air strikes. He was critical of the cuts in defense forces during the Clinton administration and of the decision to invade Iraq without specific UN support.
"By the standards of many Americans, McPeak would be considered hawkish but he has serious problems with the approach used by the Bush Administration in the Middle East. He is concerned about the damage that might be done to US relationships with the Muslim world and the processes employed in Iraq."
"A Republican who headed Senator Robert Dole's 1996 presidential campaign in Oregon and served under the first President Bush (George H.W. Bush), McPeak is disappointed with the younger Bush's approach to diplomacy. He thinks Bush should start over and 'the world would fall in love with this guy.' He question's Bush's priorities as the President confronts terrorism, North Korea, the domestic economy, budget deficits, and declining good will toward America around the world." May 2003
BIG CLUE: If you go Infopedia, it explains that he was a General under Clinton.
CONCLUSION: He sold his soul, and is working for the Dark Side.
Look..it's 1 for the Dems, out of what, 100 or so..
This guy is looking forward to selling fighter aircraft and related materials to islamicist states. He wants Kerry to do for the muslims, what Clinton did for the Chinese.
Former Air Force chief of staff Gen. Merrill A. "Tony" McPeak recently declared, "For all but the resolutely sightless, it is now obvious that air combat determines the outcome in modern war."
Heretofore known as the general who personally designed a new uniform for his officers that was scrapped to cheers about 30 seconds after McPeak retired in 1994, the general remains remarkably nearsighted in his retirement. Colorblind, too. He only sees Air Force blue.
What the heck, eye lov mee too.
I know this guy. My wife and I worked to vote his nomination down when he want to side with other liberals trying to take over (back) a local county Republican party, after conservatives beat them. He is a self promoting stab you in the back kind of RINO lib who is also married to a Dem wife. If he is "quesitoning" Dubya it has to be because he sees some way to advance himself.
Makes sense guys. Kerry probably has offered him a major position somewhere should he be elected. I'd almost be willing to be, since you mentioned it and since this guy endorsed Bush the first time around ... that this guy thought his endorsement the first time around would get him something in return from Bush. I'd almost be willing to bet that if the truth were known this guy is feeling jilted for some reason and in addition to him negotiating something with the Kerry Camp ... he is probably vindictive towards Bush for some unknown reason. Whatever it is, the RNC needs to leak it and let us quietly spread the word.
The damage McPeak and 'toon wreaked on DoD in general and the Air Force in particular is legion! In 1998 we had less than half the number of aircraft that we had in 1988. While we may have not needed all of the 1988 count, we sure as heck didn't need to throw out more than 50%!
Additionally, of the remaining aircraft, many were turned into hanger queens (parked permanently in a hanger) because they had to be robbed (cannibalized) for parts - 'toon, with the full complicity of McPeak, wouldn't would give us the money we needed to buy spare parts to maintain the few aircraft we had left and keep them in the air!
You be the judge; he was a joke then, he clearly hasn't changed. BTW, he was the first military staff member to endorse 'toon's "Don't ask, don't tell!" policy regarding perverts in the military.....
In typical fighter pilot fashion he thinks he knows it all and doesn't listen to anybodyelse.
It has been covered here before, but for anybody who served under him (myself included) McPeak stands out as the single worst Chief of Staff the Air Force has ever had to suffer under. He was almost universally despised. His greatest accomplishments were some very stupid uniform modifications (gluing nice creases to the frontlegs of flightsuits for example), and spending millions to re-order the designations of several Fighter Wings. Fortunately, the Chief of Staff after McPeak was a true leader who almost everyone respected, and within months had reversed most of McPeak's idiocy.
H E L L O...
This is so long ago it's rediculous!
Hell this was before we all learned that France was NEVER going to approve any operation against "So-Damn Insane", his partner in oily-crime!
Give me a break!!!
I need a spell checker.
Well that's it, if Merrill McPeak is backing frenchie, that's good enough for me. I'm on board frenchie's bullet train now, that's for sure!
PULEEEZEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
merrill mc who???????????
Take his pulse and send him to a home somewhere. He can room with george mcgovern.
Amen to what you said...
That self absorbed idiot McPeak also stripped the rank off of everyone's uniforms (except for aircrew...), by mandating aircrew style namepatches in lieu of rank insignia or stripes. Oh yeah--and he ruled that t-shirts would be v-neck vice crew-neck to show off the manly fighter pilot chest hair... Not to mention the new service dress with navy style sleeve stripes versus sholder rank (so the pilots would have an easier transition from USAF to US Air...). He realigned career fields resulting in many of us becoming "redundant..." Let's see--he eliminated Air Force manuals, and replaced them with Air Force Instructions, 'cause those pesky manuals were just too hard to read... McPeak, I really hope you're reading this you worthless pile of monkey droppings. Why don't you leave politics alone and do something more suited to you...say like hosting "What Not To Wear..."
Easy there eaglefixer, not only fighter jocks are bad. But this guys is truly the most hated man in the USAF, even 10 years after retiring. He managed to fu$$ up our personnel system, especially navigator, pilots and maitenance troops, so bad we're still fighting to fix it now. He gave us the "Delta Airlines" uniform. No shi$, I had someone ask me which airline I flew after I got my first "new" uniform. He is noted by every guy who I know who worked with him as the single worst general officer they ever met, EXCEPT one toad who himself was the single worst officer I'VE ever met... Looks like the screwups recognize and hang together. Kinda like Mr. Kerry I guess, who has circled himself with yes men, with God knows what promises of reward if he wins the CIC.
I love it. The only thing funnier than your post is the fact that if you ask anyone who served under him, you get just about the same answer (albiet less humorously done). The Swift Vets have hurt Kerry, but I'd be willing to bet McPeak's endorsement dropped him several points among Air Force veterans.
