Somehow, I've got this gut-level conviction that no solution will work which does not somehow create conditions which cause the Mexicans to not WANT to come up here.

If it were up to me, I would start from that premise, and then do *whatever* was necessary to create those conditions, beginning as humanely as possible, but stopping at nothing until the "problem" was solved.

Well I guarantee you that if a very heavy fines were laid on employers then this nonsense would come to a screeching halt! Walmart and the rest of them would have to start hiring American citizens and paying them a living wage! Instead of laying Mexico's problems on our front porch and expecting us to pay for the food stamps, medical care and education of their children while the Waltons fatten their billionaire bank accounts at our expense.

And instead of this realistic plan our leaders plan on giving illegals social security benefits....and they need 80% fewer credits to qualify than we citizens do. Ain't it grand?

Because George W. Bush hasn't ordered it so... because he doesn't want to.

The government is doing exactly what it wants, regardless of which political party is in power.

I have always thought that there must have been a provision in NAFTA to erase the borders, but of course, WE wouldn't have known about that. Only our congress, who were required to read and approve or disapprove knew.

I guess they didn't read it.

Since 1/3 of all Federal prisoners are in the US illegally;
a soverign can be hled liable under common law who knew or should have known that damages would be incurred because of their failure to act. Therefore a massive class action against the Federal Gov't by a greedy lawyer on behalf of the injured crime victims should put an end to the problem.

At least that what a lot of these people tell me. Many feel that as long as these families maintain their stranglehold on Mexico with the complicity of our government, nothing will change.

This could very well be a factor. Also, a few weeks ago I saw Dr. Condoleeza Rice being questioned about our "porous" southern border. She acknowledged it is a security problem but cannot be completely closed because that would impede "commerce." That is congruent with the theory that an impending "North American Union (NAU)" is the reason the invasion has been allowed.

My theory of why Mexicans continue to stream northward is simple greed. I have traveled in Mexico and it's not a bad place. The cities are mostly clean and the residents well-fed and well-groomed. However, El Norte offers the quick buck; the macho man can send back mucho dinero to buy things for the family, impress the rest of the village. As I said, though, it's a theory. Many years have passed since I traveled there.

"I guess they didn't read it."

I will never forget one night on Larry King during the Nafta "debate". Someone against it read something startling to Rep. Phil Crane, R. He asked, "where are you getting that stuff from?"....the answer was NAFTA. He admitted he didn't read it. But he voted for it. Common practice, sadly.

How do you feel about the bi-partisan effort through the State Dept. and SSAdministration to give Illegal Aliens social security benefits?

Perhaps after the election (especially if it is a close one) we need to start considering the "I" word. If Bush refuses to honor the oath of his office and to the American people and the laws of this nation then just maybe he should be removed!!

We would consider nothing less if it was Clinton doing this to America!

"They still persons according to law because they're illegals."

My copy of the Declaration of Independence states, "We the people of the United States..."

What's the language in your copy, "We the illegal aliens that violated federal law by sneaking in from Mexico, Libya, Syria and every other nation that hates the United States..."?

LOL!

"...just how do you propose to roundup 15 million people?"

Leave it to "George" to ask the same goofy question over and over again.

Here's a partial list of what your fellow FReepers have come up with.

-Go after the employers.

-Give all illegal aliens 90 days to get the hell out of our country, period.

-Then have the Border Patrol start their interior sweeps again and order them to confiscate every last piece of property, car, truck or dollar from every illegal alien that's caught.

The majority of illegal aliens will deport themselves.

There will be a stampede across our borders into Mexico and Canaduh.
