Kerry's reluctance is rooted in a misguided belief that the four-and-a-half month-long slice of his life in Vietnam is so compelling, he can sidestep the current conflict. He is worried that criticizing Bush's war makes him sound weak to non-liberal voters. And he is boxed in by his vote authorizing war and a series of statements offering different explanations for the vote.

But the controversy stirred by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth demonstrates the inherent political risk of banking an entire presidential campaign on a war that still turns baby-boomers against each other and will always divide them from the World War II generation. After two weeks of rope-a-dope about medals and Purple Hearts, the anti-Kerry veterans are coming in for the real punch. Kerry's testimony about what happened in Vietnam probably represents the most truthful utterances of his public life. At the same time, his testimony was self-serving and hurtful to others who served honorably.
Self-serving truth has its rewards and its punishments. Now, it's payback time.

It's time to stop talking about Vietnam and start talking about Iraq.

Can someone write a spoof entitled: "DESPERATION" to the tune of "Desperado"?
You got a guy run'n for President on a resume of 4 months in Vietnam AND NOTHING ELSE. You're damn right we'll keep it up.
I just heard a Viet Nam vet call in to the Rush show and tell Roger that this Viet Nam / Swift Boat Vet thing is "NOT GOING TO GO AWAY BECAUSE WE'VE WAITED 30 YEARS TO HAVE A DEBATE ON THIS."
Go for it my man; go for it. Thank God for the SBV ads. Without them our team would have no "red meat". God knows that Marc Racicot and Jim Gillespie don't have the 'nads to be a junk-yard dog against the Dim's pit bulls like James Carville.

Boston Globe - Joan Vennochio on John Pinnochio.
"It's time to stop talking about Vietnam and start talking about Iraq."
Kerry is talking about Iraq, every time he opens his mouth about his experiences in Vietnam. He is having it both ways. For the anti-war crowd he is reminding them that he was a Vietnam soldier willing to become an anti-war protestor, long hair, anti-establishment liberal American leopard who has never changed his sports. They are banking on the fact that this Kerry will resurface once he is elected and end this unjust war. For those who are disenchanted with Bush, but still support the more traditional values, he is telling them that he is reporting for duty, he was a war hero and undertands the needs to protect this nation, they just don't know yet about the reappearance of the old Kerry mentioned above.

Sadly, she may be correct here.
The libs know Kerry is in deep doo doo.
Aiding the enemy in a time of war, is treason.
In a free democracy, the time to debate the subject is before the war starts. Once our men and women in the military have been committed into combat, the time of debate has ended.
Aiding the enemy in a time of war, is treason.

Yep, they see the knockout coming and Kerry has helped them wind up for it.
"When done correctly, is no defense!" (Mr. Miagi - Karate Kid)
A fascinating semantic construction that could only come from a liberal paper. "Most truthful . . . " Something is either true or it isn't. Maybe they could have just quoted the baby from Rollie Pollie Ollie and said: "this is the mostest truest stuff Kerry has ever said."
Of course, this ignores that his post-vietnam utterances were false, defamatory and treasonous.
I thought, at the time and still think today, that Fullbright and his cronies committed treason along with Kerry. But Fullbright isn't running for President.
