the HQ of the KKK is in OHIO. (the last time i looked that wasn't in dixie).

there are more racially segregated schools NOW in the north than there was in the south in 1950 .

NYC has more klan-IDIOTS than the states of MS & LA combined.

AND the damnyankees STILL lie about the southland, her heroes,her bloodspatterd flags, her battle memorials, her separate culture, etc,etc,etc.

in other words, we southrons look north & only see SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS,IGNORANCE,HYPOCRASY & HATE. nothing more;nothing less.

NOW, the Confederate Veteran magazine runs ads (FREE of charge) for the SUVCW & we have memorial ceremonies together to honor BOTH sides. (YES, there were some brave & true lads in blue;they were BRAVE & HONORABLE while serving a poor cause.)!

When the SUVCW passed their resolution supporting the Confederate flag and opposing political correctness they really gained my respect. Lets face it, it would have been a lot easier ofr them to take the easy way and either say nothing or come down on the other side. But they remained true to the soldiers. When I encounter a Union descendant I recommend they join. At least the SCV's opponents are real and can be confronted. The SUVCW's main opponent is apathy and lack of interest in the north and in some ways, thats a tougher opponent.

Is this is what the SCV finds so offensive?

It seems to me that this is blown way out of proportion in terms of "level of offensiveness."

Being white, with historical family roots to Missouri and North Carolina, I am in general terms, favorable to much of what the Confederacy stood for (slavery obviously not being one of them). However, if I were to attempt to understand the feelings of Blacks in regards to the Confederacy, I would think that the above flag represents a clever way to turn a symbol which they may have contempt for, into one that acknowledges the freedom they now have.

I think it should be one we can live with. I also believe those that hate the original flag should rise above their contempt for it and also tolerate that image.

I should tip off that I am having a bit of fun. I certainly do not hold that people south of the Mason-Dixon line are "mouth-breathing" imbeciles. I do question whether the undying fixation on the insurrectionists hurts the South's reputation.

This silly claim that the South is oppressed is nonsense. Our last two Presidents (three if you count Bush senior) are from the South. A disproportionate number of the the higher up politicians in the House and Senate are from the South. Ther South has seen massive economic development in the decades following the end of segregation and the (forced) institution of equality for all citizens of this country.

This silly belief that an independent South would have been some sort of mint julip sipping paradise defies reality.

Let me tell you something else, my wife moved to Atlanta in 96. She confessed that northern men are small sized. I said, what do you mean? She replied " about 4 inches". She maintains southern men are much bigger!

I guess your wife must have seen a large number of penises in both the North and South to be able to make such a determination.

Men of great courage fought on both sides. We should honor them all.

And the Confederate flag should also be honored as a representation of gallant Americans.

in point of fact, the ONLY real problem you have with the newspaper article is that it shows the damnyankees to be what they demonstrably were/ARE:

CRUEL,ARROGANT,SELF-RIGHTEOUS,RACIST,SELF-SERVING,STUPID & EVIL.

My problem with the newspaper article in question is that in no way can it be seen as an unbiased source. You challenged someone to do a google search to see how many blacks were lynched during the New York draft riots of 1863. I took up the challenge, checked a variety of sources, and came up with the numbers. You respond not with a firm number and an equal variety of sources to support it, but with a bit of hysteria out of the most rabidly anti-democratic/pro-abolitionist newspaper in New York, which doesn't give a number, only a visual metaphor. Challenged on that count, you assert that the newspaper reporter was an eyewitness and therefore not to be doubted, then somehow try to turn the argument into one about northern racism.

Newsflash, chief, I recognize northern racism is a pernicious evil. I said in an earlier post that my hometown in Illinois was just about the most racist place in the midwest, a place once mentioned in a major magazine as "the most fishbelly white town in Illinois." I also gave the south full marks for making a lot more progress in race relations over the last 40 years or so than the north has.

You stated that I should support the cause of southern liberty. Tell you what, chief, the day you get 50%+1 of the population of the south to agree with you, I'll tell you to go with God.

You stated that the Klan today in headquarted in Ohio. Which one? Given that the Klan has been fragmented into dozens of small, independent (and often fiercely feuding) groups, it wouldn't surprise me that one of them in headquartered in Ohio. There's the White Knights, the Invisible Empire, the Brotherhood of Knights, the Knights of the White Kamellia and so on. Some of them are headquarted in the North. Some of them in the South. Some of them up in Pacific Northwest.

But back to the newspaper article. Your apparent position seems to be that if it's written in a newspaper by a reporter, it must be true. Is that correct? Because I can easily find eyewitness accounts published in newspapers about the massacre of innocent civilians at Lawrence. For that matter, I can find Nazi newspapers from 1944 telling how the Allied invasion of Normandy has been flung back into the sea. It must have happened, right?

Or, as I expect, will you only admit as truth those things that agree with you and dismiss all others.

Actually, what I expect will be the usual blustering junk, with no real cohesive argument. Just a tirade about my hatred of the south.

I don't hate the south. I just hate hypocrisy and intellectual dishonesty, which is what you demonstrate in spades.

Sadly, the monument is located nearly 1/2 mile off the main road, down the trail that leads to the Shiloh Indian Burial Mounds, which is offlimits to motor vehicles. Another fascinating thing that they did there at Shiloh was to replant the peach orchard. In a few years the orchard should look like it did back in 1862.
