"DOUBLY ADVANTAGEOUS" (means flip-flop)
The Washington Times ^ | August 25, 2004 | By Tony Blankley

Posted on 08/26/2004 7:00:21 PM PDT by Vn_survivor_67-68

Some of the honorable members of big media are now doing some solid reporting on the subject. The Washington Post's David Broder in this week's column reported: "In a 2002 conversation, Kerry told me he thought it would be doubly advantageous that 'I fought in Vietnam and I also fought against the Vietnam War,' apparently not recognizing that some would see far too much political calculation in such a bifurcated record." Indeed, some of us would think that sounded remarkably like "I voted for the $87 billion before I voted against it." If big media returns to its duty to report even-handedly on this presidential campaign for the remaining two months, there may be no need to ship them off to show trials and re-education camps.

William Bennett mentioned this on Hannity & etc......I hadn't seen it before, maybe others haven't as well.

This link is to the Broder article mentioned above in the WaPo: http://www.postwritersgroup.com/archives/brod0823.htm

I heard Bill Bennett tonight on H&C mention this story by David Broder. Another nail in Kerry's coffin.

Fn's last major bastion of support is the MSM. They are his equivalent of Saddam's "Republican Guard" forces.

If they begin to abandon him, all hope is lost regardless how much spin Terry "Baghdad Bob" McAwful tries to apply. They haven't left him yet, but a few of them appear to be on the verge.

here is the paragraph from Broders article.....the whole piece is worth a look.

"Having lived with that legacy since the start of his political career, Kerry may be judged naive to have thought that Vietnam would be a golden credential for the presidency -- and not an inevitable source of controversy. When he chose to make his Navy combat in Vietnam the principal metaphor for his dedication to public service and the proof of his toughness in a time of terrorism, he might have guessed that the skeptics would not remain silent. In a 2002 conversation, Kerry told me he thought it would be doubly advantageous that "I fought in Vietnam and I also fought against the Vietnam War," apparently not recognizing that some would see far too much political calculation in such a bifurcated record."

Yup I heard that too. One thing for sure, only a political opportunist would say such a thing.

To serve as the President of the United States should never be an ambition of a lifetime, it should be an opportunity of a lifetime.

Anybody in a leadership position who makes his or her decisions based on what will serve their ambitions and not the people they lead, is not fit to serve them

If this is your original quote, I toast you in admiration for such an eloquent description of the true mark of a leader!

"Mark the calendar. August 2004 is the first time that the major, mainline media — CBSNBC ABCNEW YORKTIMES WASHINGTONPOSTLATIMESNEWSWEEK TIME MAGAZINEASSOCIATEDPRESS ETC. — ignored a news story that nonetheless became known by two-thirds of the country within two weeks of it being mentioned by the "marginal" press.

This is the crucial part of this big story.

Great post! I saw Bennet on Hnnnity -- he could barely get a word in edgewise -- but he did try to mention the Broder article twice.

The polls seem close, I just can't believe America would elect such an obviously political calculating lying dork....Vietnam Vets now is your time to speak the truth [I'm not one, my brother was]

This is Kerry's "legacy" too--making most Vietnam vets in movies (after his testimony) into criminals and psychos:

Apocalypse Now (1979)
Cease Fire (1985)
Coming Home (1978)
Deer Hunter, The (1978)
Distant Thunder (1988)
Domino Principle, The (1977)
Eye of the Tiger (1986)
First Blood (1982)
Full Metal Jacket (1987)
Platoon (1986)
Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985)
Taxi Driver (1976)

Ithink Kerry and Edwards should be renamed "Kate" and "Edith" ...from the old joke "you can't have your Kate and Edith too"
