HOUSTON White non-Hispanics are no longer the majority in Texas -- for the first time since the 1800's.
Today's Census Bureau survey says whites stopped being the majority in Texas as of last year.
Also, the numbers show that Texas joined only Illinois and North Carolina in having a poverty rate that measurably increased -- while income decreased -- in 2002-03.
Texas state demographer Steve Murdock says the two trends are related as economic woes have slowed white migration from other states.
Luis Figueroa with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund says the future of Latinos is the future of Texas, as the population numbers show.
Also:
-- Most of the Texas population expansion since 2000 has come from births and international immigration -- both sources of predominantly Hispanic growth.
-- The black population remained basically flat, at around ten-point-eight percent.
-- Asian-Americans now account for about three percent of the Texas population.
Good point. So much for the "bunch of rednecks" image people in the Northeast like to paint of Texas.
These numbers mean the state has about the same ethnic mix as NYC.
It's the Texan outlook on life that makes the difference.
In years gone by (before it became a racist thing to utter) one would say "well, there goes the neighborhood!".
Non-white segment? What's that supposed to mean?
Like I said, they are "outbreeding" us.
Why quote that bigot Steve Sailer? He's trash.
Under a second term of Bush it'll be even worse!! Bush has amply indicated that no matter what the rank and file think on this issue he is going to ram this down our throats because he sees these fine southern immigrants (illegal or legal, it don't matter to him) as his future. You need to remove the blinders if you believe what you said.
Actually it really doesn't matter which of the two gets elected, they both are committed to embracing the Mexican migrants at the expense of the whites loss of political clout.
How sad. I had hoped this thread wouldn't turn into what it is now. You know what I'm talking about P.
Not trash all the time. Read the link for a real kick about how the white Spanish rulers run the mestizos and Indians out of Mexico and into the USA. It's a great deal for them. You ain't seen racism until you've seen it done Mexican (and Hispanic) style in their home counties. They do it here too but watered down.
Ah why do some of these threads always turn into these sort of things? I wonder.
Ah well I have up close and personal experience with the Spanish imperialist minded. The fact that Vicente Fox is a snob is nothing new.
Better than turbans.
BUMP
In a recorded, prompted message on the phone the other day I got "If you want Spanish press one, for English press two".
Our illegals in Texas are also bigger than every one else's.
Many of the illegals have no intention of settling here, but just want to come across and work to earn money for a while. We should facilitate that, while cracking down on the welfare hospital births by denyingautomatic citizenship to the children of non-citizens.
Those suburbs vote Republican.
Vincente Fox is not "Spanish" or "Hispanic" in the sense of being someone of Spanish ethnicity or ancestoral descent from the Ibero-Roman people of Spain and Portugal. I've never heard of any Spaniard named "Fox". Nor any Spaniard named "Sahagun", as in his wife, Marta Sahagun. Its a bit of stretch to claim he is a representative of "the Spanish imperialist mind" when he is not Spanish.
I know Vicente Fox is not Spanish, growing up in Spain but he has that mindset of race/class that characterizes the upper classes obsession with tweezing apart one's racial background.
You hit the nail on the head. Hispanics are socially conservative and a disproportionate number of them are small business owners. This seems like a demographic that is custom-made for the GOP.
The GOP should focus on recruiting young Hispanic politicians and working them up through the system. In a decade, we could own the demographic.
Well gosh, if we tweeze apart his background in the same manner, I think we would find him the descendant of German or Polish Jews named Fuchs. Where does that leave him as an examplar of Mexicans or Hispanics?
