HOUSTON White non-Hispanics are no longer the majority in Texas -- for the first time since the 1800's.
Today's Census Bureau survey says whites stopped being the majority in Texas as of last year.
Also, the numbers show that Texas joined only Illinois and North Carolina in having a poverty rate that measurably increased -- while income decreased -- in 2002-03.
Texas state demographer Steve Murdock says the two trends are related as economic woes have slowed white migration from other states.
Luis Figueroa with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund says the future of Latinos is the future of Texas, as the population numbers show.
Also:
-- Most of the Texas population expansion since 2000 has come from births and international immigration -- both sources of predominantly Hispanic growth.
-- The black population remained basically flat, at around ten-point-eight percent.
-- Asian-Americans now account for about three percent of the Texas population.
I don't think anyone doubts you are a fine upstanding American.
However, you do yourself a disservice when you align yourself with the trash blowing over from the gutters of Mexico. My upper-class Mexican friends here love to laugh and tease me about how Americans are such suckers for taking in the most useless among the Mexican population, and how clever Mexico is for dumping them on us. It would be rather as if the US had an organized government policy to send the people of Appalachia and the black ghettos to immigrate illegally to Canada as a stratagem to reduce the American welfare rolls and crime rates.
I think we all know there are many hardworking, decent Hispanics who come to the US, and frankly, I'd much rather have them than any Muslims. At the same time, there is a large element of useless loafers coming here thanks to the generosity of far too many places outside of Texas.
FITZ, glad that your post shows a concept vs: reality. I feel better now.
If Texas stays Republican, it will be because the Republicans have capitulated by giving more hand outs than Democrats. Down here in South Texas, all the US Representatives are Democrat. I really don't know if Cornyn is a Democrat or Republican. He is a big kiss-up to the hispanics.
Now one of the problems we are having is that many WEALTHY hispanics from Monterray are coming for free health care. Also, the US government plays 75% to 80% of ALL the health care in south Texas.
The leftists in Mexico come from the deep south of Mexico, where most of the Indians are who hold an endless grudge against both the Mestizo (half Indian/half Spanish) Hispanics and the White Hispanics and White Americans as opressors. Most from north of Mexico City are fairly "American" in their outlook, as far as that is possible in Mexico.
One good thing is that many don't vote. The educated working and assimilated types vote in far greater numbers which saves us for now. If you look at the results precinct by precinct, you see interesting patterns --- the more affluent neighborhoods go Republican but as you get closer to 100% immigrant-from-Mexico precincts, the vote goes closer to 100% democrat results.
By the way, what part of legal don't you understand?
I think the ones who were living in what is now the USA were most like Americans in their outlook --- they liked the "frontier" away from their big centralist government. You never read much of any riots or protests by them when that former Spanish territory joined the USA. Mexico City is modern in the affluent areas --- but they seem more like Europeans to me than like us.
Well, Europe has a history of genocide and violent supression of minority uprisings. Despite all the liberal platitudes, they'll fight when finally pushed.
What I find interesting --- half of the state of Zacatecas is now living in the USA --- but that state just elected a PRD governor --- and we consider the PRD party to be one of the more leftist. Mexico City has a PRD mayor and it's interesting because he very well could be the next president of that country.
Not all legal immigrants were people we should have taken in. Especially those who go straight to receiving SSI, WIC, and Food Stamps.
Anyway, trash was the term used by my Mexican friends here in Philadelphia (they are from Monterrey and Guadalajara). I'm just repeating what they said.
It's just that there are actually different groups --- and we cannot make the assumption that because 35% of the Tejanos in Texas in 1980 voted Republican that bringing in a whole different and poorer less educated population, we can just know they'll also vote 35% for Republicans.
I agree with that --- to me an illegal who has left his family in Mexico, works here to support them --- even illegally but never asks for a dime he didn't work for is far better than all those coming over and heading right to a welfare office --- or heading over to the county hospital to give birth to a permanent welfare recipient. And there is a lot of that kind of legal immigration going on.
In contrast, most Mexicans that get into Texas come from the more conservative part of Mexico
Oh man.
Look Sam, even if that were true, illegals, regardless of what part of Mexico they are from, are a very transient group. They move around a lot, and use different names etc. As a matter of fact, there is a pipe line of illegals that run drugs and themselves back and forth from LA to Texas, and all other points. They don't move in, buy a home, get married and stay in the same town for 30 years. Know what I mean?
I have only read to your post, but have to comment.
FITZ does NOT fear the Hispanics, she understands what the word means. And the connotations that go along with it.

Mexicans speak Mexican, not Spanish.
The whole thing about "Hispanics" is a myth IMO.
Fear the ones that look Hispanic and are named Mohamed. You are confusing the real Mexico and it's history with what the Mexicans coming in will do with the vote (if they legalize and vote).
Yes that is the problem in a nutshell.
Thousands of ME people have come into the USA from Mexico and have assumed "Mexican" last names.
You are the one who is confuzed, no offense intended.
They do not have to "legalize", they have been voting for years and it is illegal.
When Clinton was president just before the 2000 elections, he sent out THOUSANDS of voter registration cards to ILLEGAL Mexicans (more likely tens of thousands) and all they had to do was tear the card off, and present it at the polling booth, and boom...they could vote.
In the election this year, there will be massive voter fraud.
The Democrats will try again to suppress the Military vote (they pulled it off last time) and of course the tombstones will give them lots of votes too.
Plus all the Dems that live in NY, and winter in Florida.
They are registered in both places.
Exactly true. Due to political correctness we are allowing the "Indian problem" of Mexico/Central America to be shifted from those imploding nations over onto us. We are idiots to allow this. The white racist Spanish who rule these nations are overjoyed to rid themselves of Mestizos/Indians and have them remit billions of dollars back to the home countries.
10 years ago I read in Forbes about illegal immigrants from Mexico who didn't even speak Spanish. They were Mayan Indians working in California fields. I didn't know what to make of it back then. The Spanish ruling class made a mess with their native Americans and have figured out a way how to shift the problem over to the suckers living in the United States.
