I'm told that now coming across the newswires is a new column from Bob Novak that contains extensive quotes from Retired Rear Adm. William L. Schachte Jr.
Schachte, call-sign "Batman," has broken his press silence to insist that he was indeed aboard the Boston Whaler or "skimmer" in the early morning mission on December 2, 1968, out of which Sen. John Kerry's first Purple Heart was awarded. Schachte maintains that Kerry's minor arm wound was not sustained while under enemy fire, but was indeed the result of Kerry — code-named "Robin" on this mission — being careless in firing an M-79 grenade launcher. Other officers are quoted to support the likelihood of Schachte's presence.

I think the circumstances surrounding the demise of the HMS Hood would be more appropriate though.
The Hood had a fatal flaw - thin deck armour, and it's fatal exposure came as an utter shock to the British;

Chris literally screamed her down...She couldn't even finish a sentence -- she was trying to talk about the Unfit for Command book, and Kerry's 'self-inflicted wound'. Matthews kept screaming at her " you mean he shot himself in the foot? Is that what you are saying.." Then he didn't let her come back to the 2nd segment.

There are plenty of acceptable cover stories. Nervous breakdown under intense scrutiny, resignation in shame over being found out as a con-man, flare up of prostate, to name three. The trouble is, the DEM party needs a name at the time of the election, in order to draw a majority of the elctoral votes. Now, if Hillary! is named, and loses, that doesn't reflect poorly on her, because she didn't run. 2008 would still be open.

Yes, that was a fatal flaw. The Bismark could also be used as such an example since she didn't have an ability to steer by varying propeller speed. When a British torpedo jammed her rudder, all the Bismark could do was circle and wait for the British fleet.
I agree, the Hood is the best example.
