SPANGDAHLEM - The US Air Force is deploying 1,000 forces to Iraq from Spangdahlem air base in Germany, a base official said Thursday.
The forces are elements of the 52nd Fighter Wing, said Air Force Colonel Dave Goldfein.
The troop re-assignment comes amid a realignment of US forces abroad that includes possible base reductions or closures in Germany.
But Goldfein said the re-assignment should not be taken as a sign to indicate that Spangdahlem was being closed.
"At the moment, however, it is impossible to say what the future holds and what sort of forces will be stationed here," he said.
The base in the Rhineland region of western Germany has about 5,000 personnel.

52nd fw has F-15C, F-16C/J, and A-10. 1000 to iraq. as i have believed along. look for more deployments by the air force to the iraq/oman as support for OIF but getting for full scale targeting of Iraninian missile, nuclear, biological, chemical, and terrorists training camps.
It's too early to hit Iran yet.

I agree, too early for US, but if Bush looses I will bet Israel strikes the reactors before January 2005.
Israel won't strike before their Arrow II anti-missile system is fuly operational.

LOL - for a second there I thought it said 1,000 fighters.
best way is trought stealth and at night time to initiate bombing campaign. what about this we keep bombing iran and then see what they do. they move divisions from their bunkers result is B-52, B-1B come in and play. air force wants to launch. awacs will see them taking off and giving coordinates to F-15, F-16.
