The White House today slammed Senator John Kerry for staging a 'political stunt' at the presidents ranch and for a double standard on attack ads.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Kerry's dispatch of former US Senator Max Cleland and Vietnam Vet Jim Rassman to Crawford was an attempt to divert attention from Kerry's 'out of the mainstream political record and out of the mainstream views.'
'Senator Kerry says he wants to talk about the issues. Today's political stunt is an interesting way of showing it, McClellan said.
'If Senator Kerry was interested in focusing on the issues, he would join the president in calling for a stop to all of these ads.'
Kerry accuses the Bush campaign of being behind Swift Boat Veterans for Truth whose questioning of the veracity of Kerry's war accounts has riled the Kerry camp.
Bush has called for a ban on all ads by the so called 527 advocacy groups. Kerry has not heeded Bush's call to stand with him on the issue.
Bush has been savaged for a year by 527's favoring Kerry.

Algore said he wanted "Every Vote to count" at the same time asking for a recount only in three heavily Dem Counties.
In other words freedom of political expression only for those who agree with me.
Kerry by his lack of joining the pres on this gives green light to all 527 groups. EXCEPT the swifties must be silenced!
Same thing here freedom of political expression only for those who agree with me
Sending a one armed freak out to fight your battles is pretty sissy if you ask me.
You post made me think. ( I know, I tried that once before and got a headache, but I actually had another thought.)
What if each of us sent a baby pacifier to John Kerry ?
Since Cleland has credance because he blew off three of his own limbs, he should blow off his last limb. Then, he will really be credible.
Of course he wouldn't.
Kerry's still using the same MO three decades later. . .BTW using disabled vets is an old VVAW tactic, too. I can't remember the details, but Nicosia mentions this guy in a wheelchair from a VVAW offshoot who did a lot of stunts like this in the late 70s/early 80s while lobbying about veterans compensation. One thing the guy liked to do was ram his wheelchair into people's groins knowing they wouldn't hit him back because he was crippled.
"John Kerry reportedly flew in his private hairdresser before his "Meet the Press" interview for a total cost of $1,000. That's $1,000 for a haircut, which sounds like a lot, but have you seen the size of Kerry's head." Jay Leno
Interestingly enough, this is not the first time that John Kerry has exploited crippled Vietnam Vets for his own purposes, as seen in his VVAW march on Washington, D.C. circa 1971 (above - (C) J.F. Kerry, The New Soldier, 1972).

Cleland left the ranch as Bush supporters blasted the song "Roll Me Away" by Bob Seger.
Mr. Miller would do well!
