The MRC's Geoff Dickens caught this exchange, on Monday's Hardball on MSNBC, in which Matthews not only refused to admit his distortion of Malkin's point, but repeated it:
Matthews: "Welcome back to Hardball. Before we go to Dick Cavett, we want to get some final thoughts from Doug Brinkley and Stanley Karnow. Let me go to Doug Brinkley on a hot point on this program. Doug, there was a woman on the show the other night, Michelle Malkin or something, who was discussing in rather loose terms the idea that maybe John Kerry had purposely wounded himself to win a Purple Heart. Where would she get such an idea?"
Doug Brinkley: "Well, from the Internet, from talk radio. You know this is a right-wing August takedown on John Kerry, and rumors, and accusations, innuendoes flying. And that's just how, how gutter politics is played sometimes in America. It's a, I feel it is a completely irresponsible comment and she needs to apologize for making it. There's no evidence that says John Kerry ever shot himself."
Matthews: "Just a minute, Pat, we'll be back in a minute here. But do you want to say something?"
Buchanan: "Yeah, I do want to say something. Chris, I saw the show you did with Malkin. And there was, there was a misconnection there. She said-"
Matthews: "No, there wasn't. I asked her a dozen times to clarify what she was saying."
Buchanan: "She said, was it a 'self-inflicted wound'? And she said yes. And you were saying, was it purposefully done by Kerry? She should have said, no, it was the-"
Matthews: "Why didn't she say it when I gave her 12 times to do that?"
Buchanan: "Well, it was-"
Matthews: "Twelve times."
Buchanan: "Well, look, I mean-"
Matthews: "Just a minute, Pat."
Buchanan: "You can argue that with Ms. Malkin. But that, what she was saying was right from the book that it was a 'self-inflicted wound,' probably by a grenade that hit the rocks in front of Kerry."
Matthews: "Right. Of course we all know that kind of thing happens in war. The question is, was it purposely, did he purposefully shoot himself or not? That was the question that was being suggested by that discussion."
Buchanan: "I saw her and I do not believe she said it was purposefully-"
Matthews: "Watch the tape, okay."
"Self-inflicted" does not mean on purpose and no one in O'Neill's book, nor Malkin on the August 19 Hardball, ever said that Kerry "shot himself." Only Matthews came up with that slam at Kerry.
And The Sheep will believe.
Appears he ( Matthews ) was talking over Buchanan also.
What a disgusting human being he is.
Chris is feeling the strain of having tied his boat to the good ship Kerrypop, which has a few big leaks.
Chris Mathews talking over a guest? I don't believe it...
(Is it OK to be a "Buchananite" when he's going around campaigning against Kerry?)
Matthews: "Watch the tape, okay."
IIRC that POS mathews was going to play the tape but never did...

Prissy mathews is another lefty coward that wraps himself up in a Flag that was won with others blood.

Little Chrissy has to pick on girls because guys just laugh at him when he gets so excited his spit flies. And incredibly, MSNBC PAYS him for looking so bad!
Oh wait his contrubution to society was cleaning Tip O'Neills shorts, and carrying water for liberal haters in this country.
Matthews and O'Reilly (who I used to like) are a couple of punks. Both of them are no longer on Television. Not in my house.
Chris Matthews used to do a terrific job on this show.
But he has turned into some left-wing whack job who is very rude to his guests.
Perhaps his shoes are too tight?
Oh well, I try to remember that my immediate family is bigger than his audience.
Chrissy's a rabid and lying hatemonger.
I used to watch him, but he's been banned from my tube for several months.
He's boring, offensive and irrelevant, all at once.
MSNBC is TOTALLY supporting the Kerry camp. It's so blatant and it appears to be a concerted effort by just about every talking head there including Matthews, O'Donnell, Olbermann. Even Scarborough has been soft on challenging the Kerry liars.
It's way over the usual liberal bias that we always see and I'm not sure if a directive came down from above to take this course or if it's just panic because their candidate is getting besieged. Whatever it is, it's ruined any shred of credibility they had left and probably has turned off the last dozen or so viewers they had left.
Perhaps they are trying to become the Fox News for the left? They obviously aren't going to make it in the mainstream news market.
Matthews has turned to the dark side.
