Erika Harold to Attend NYC GOP Convention (Miss America 2003--pro-life, abstinence, delegate)

CHICAGO — Erika Harold may be a former Miss America but the 2003 title-holder has been busier than ever.

Harold will be a law student at Harvard this fall. But before heading off to Cambridge from her home state of Illinois, she has a scheduled stop in New York where she'll be a delegate to the Republican National Convention.

She'll be there as President Bush formally accepts the party nomination. Some Republicans hope it will be the first of many campaign events for the former beauty queen.

"I would be very interested in considering the possibility of running for public office," Harold said.

She already has fans in conservative circles, in part because she regularly talks to young people about abstaining from sex. On the issue of abortion, Harold describes herself as pro-life.

The bright hope that Harold represents is rare good news this year for the GOP in a state where John Kerry enjoys a double-digit lead over Bush and the Democratic U.S. Senate candidate is leading his Republican rival by better than two-to-one.

You know the rules. :)

Hmm. Miss America versus the typical hagged-out Birkenstock-shod unshaven-armpit leftist womyn. Gee, let me think...

She is an admirable person.

Biography:

Miss America 2003 Erika Harold is a distinguished young leader with a future. Her accomplishments so far have provided a national platform enabling her to issue a call to action challenging every segment of American society to take a proactive role in eradicating a pervasive culture of harassment and violence. Her platform, "Preventing Youth Violence and Bullying: Protect Yourself, Respect Yourself" has been the focus of her nearly 100 speaking engagements to date.

As a role model, she encourages young people to abstain from drugs, sex until marriage and alcohol and states clearly "how this commitment helped me protect, respect and define myself." Making reference to the startling experiences she had as a high school student, suffering from racial, sexual and other forms of harassment, Erika gives constructive suggestions to students, parents, and teachers about how to address the harmful effects of bullying and how to discourage violent behavior.

As Miss America, Erika has addressed notable academic institutions such as Harvard University and Princeton, business groups, state agencies including the Connecticut Commission of Children, political groups and student organizations nationwide.

Erika is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Illinois, a three time member of the National Dean’s List, a National Spokesperson for the Teen Victims Project of the National Center for Victims of Crime, and a member of the National Board of Directors for the Center of Youth as Resources. She has received numerous academic and community awards.

She has been accepted to Harvard Law School where she will enroll for 2004.

Actually, I had her mixed up with the conservative goddess from Missouri that won Miss USA this year...but, uh, er...what was I talking about again?

Just more proof that conservative women are better. Period. :)

Perhaps she would like to run against Sen Obama when he comes up for reelection in 2010! What an outstanding leader she will be.

That's what many Republicans in IL are saying. I just hope that she isn't mistreated by the nutcases at Harvard Law School. They will be out to get her for sure.
