Daily Guerrilla Campaigning Thread
me | Miner89

I was wondering if there was interest in a daily/weekly thread on what I will loosly call Guerilla campaigning. A place to discuss and swap low-cost, high impact, campaigning ideas, slogans, bumperstickers, etc.

For example I am involved in campaigning for the Republican party in a small rural county in Tennessee. County is Democrat Majority but we are gaining on them.

However, we are very low budget so we are looking for ways to stir things up on the cheap, have a little fun, and greatly annoy the local Democrats.

Interest? I will post a few examples of what I am talking about....

TOPICS: Activism/Chapters; Politics/Elections; US: Tennessee
KEYWORDS: campaigning; elections; ilovehalliburton; slogans; strategy
One idea I had was to generate some signs like the old Burma Shave signs. Put them up on like Monday and Friday mornings and then take them down again early evening to avoid the signs being stolen (which we have had trouble with). I would put up a new set every week, so that people would begin to look for them.

Something along the lines as follows.

_______________-

Republicans

Don't Think It's Funny

When The Democrats

Spend All Your Money!

Vote Republican!

I also heard a discussion once about an ad campaign of small ads focused on shifting opinions from Dem to Rep.

Would your grandfather vote to take away your guns?

YOUR GRANDFATHER WON'T ROLL OVER IN HIS GRAVE!
VOTE REPUBLICAN!

My assistant, who is a proud Mexican American, brings her bright 7 year old to work during the summer. So I explained a little about elections to him, and why it was important that he tell EVERY RELATIVE HE HAS to vote for Bush! (he was quite convinced by my reasoning :)

Sounds funny but many of his relatives don't have strong opinions about politics one way or the other, and the advice of the nephew they are proudest of could make a difference in a few votes.

Raise taxes Abortion on demand Gun Control Vote Democrat

Excellent, but I'd recommend changing the Gun Control line to "Give us your guns."

I like the Guerilla Campaign thread idea, perhaps as a weekly thread. One thing I'd suggest is that we get www.wintersoldier.com in front of as many people as possible.

I think this is a great idea. I know I don't have a whole lot of money to contribute to the campaign or to the RNC, and I don't live anywhere near NYC (or any other big city, for that matter), but I want to do something to help get Bush re-elected. The MoveOn crowd certainly has its "guerrilla" activists. I've decided to do something--something small, because that's all I can do--every day until the election. Write a letter, send an email, Freep a poll, make a comment, make a phone call--something.

By the way, this is my first post. I've been a lurker for four years, and I have to say . . . I LOVE you guys! For four years FreeRepublic has been a huge source of information (much of it I can't get anywhere else) and entertainment. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent laughing, reading the funniest, wittiest posts on the web. You've even changed my language. "All your (fill in the blank) are belong to us," "it's series," "it's hugh," etc. Thank you!
