The Iraqi soccer team's improbable run at an Olympic gold medal ended Tuesday night with a 3-1 semifinal loss to Paraguay. The Iraqis still have a chance for a bronze, which would be their war-weary nation's first medal in 44 years.

Paraguay made history of its own, getting two goals from Jose Cardozo and one from Fredy Bareiro to advance to Saturday's gold-medal game against Argentina, a 3-0 winner over Italy. Gold or silver, it will be the first Olympic medal of any sort for Paraguay.

How do you say Iraq soccer sucks in Italian?

Two member of the Iraqi team have spoken to the media, but not all of them.

Why in the world is everyone so intent on withdrawing their support for the team based on the word of two idiots?

That is no better than the media seeking out the one or two Bush bashers out of a crowd of supporters.

You are falling for the trick just like they want you to.

I thought most freepers were smarter than to fall for that.

Guess not.

Let us not include all Iraqis just because a couple of them mouthed off. Do you think all Americans are like Ted Kennedy or Michael Moore?

Plus you should also notice this quote from the coach of Iraqui soccer team which is published on the official web page of Athens Olympics: "We are all brothers, we are all human, we don’t have anything against the Americans or any other people for that matter, although our country has been destroyed."

Other members of the Iraqi soccer team spoke to Greek reporters of the US in glowing terms, but our MSM and CNN couldn't report that, of course.

I can only go by what I have seen posted here and in other sources. maybe a few are idiots but the fact that any of them are bitching is almost unreal. Perhaps the question in return for them is of they want it back the other way when they were tortured for losing?

I hope you are referring to only those two men when you say that.

Of course....

I really hate to see people here immediately falling for the media trap they so lovingly set.

The awful thing is that CNN and the rest of the MSM control what the nation and the world, for that matter, see and hear as news. You have to get lucky and happen to come upon a piece about the Iraqi soccer team that puts things in real focus, or just decide that anything the MSM spews out, no matter what, is probably bunk...esp. if it smears the US. Just recalled that Rush mentioned last week that the MSM had gotten together, had a meeting where they'd decided how to spin the news, and laid out headlines everyone was supposed to print, lead nightly tv news with from now 'til election night. They were all in agreement, forcefeed the public predigested news items, slam them home night after night...and then the Swifties came along and upset the apple cart. God definitely has a sense of humor, and a very long memory. So, thank you again, dear God, for those wonderful Swifties. Good guys and brave beyond belief, each and every one.

Good post. Did they really have a meeting like that?

Driving home today, I listened to NPR interviewing an Iraqi sportscaster.

When asked about the anti-Bush statements of the one of the Iraqi coaches, the Iraqi sportscaster said that you had to remember that the Iraqi coach was probably speaking for Iraqi domestic consumption so that some Baathist or al Sadr thug would not plant a bomb in his car when he came home.

The answer did not fit the agenda of the NPR intervier, what's-his-name-in-the-afternoon, who then badgered the sportswriter, "But what about what this player said or what the second player said?"

The difference between the U.S. of 1944 and the U.S. of 2004 is that the U.S. news media, except for Fox News, now performs the American Home Front morale killing function that the German Propaganda Ministry used to perform.
