Why Bother? (Iraqi Soccer Team Vanity)
NBC | 8-24-04 | My Favorite Headache

Posted on 08/24/2004 11:04:58 AM PDT by My Favorite Headache

Oh how quickly we forget, huh? I am just absolutely disgusted that we have come to the defense of the "Iraqi" people as of today. For the longest time I have been a supporter of this war and still do support it in principle as part of the war on terror.

Saddam needed to go.

However, all I read, hear, and watch on TV is ungrateful cocky Iraqi's with short term memory problems.

Have they forgotten what it was like to be tortured by Saddam's son's Uday and Qusay,if they slipped up on the field of play? Or even worse..killed? Have they forgotten the horrors and hell their country lived under for 3 decades?

President Bush and the United States along with the UK and the rest of our allies deserve a hell of a lot more than to be called murderers, thugs, and every other insult besides exactly what we are : the countries that made them a free country again.

Yes, the first step is freedom of speech and I completely respect that. However,I have about had it with thousands of Iraqi's taking up arms and bombing civilians in the name of jihad and Saddam and the piss poor PR war we have fought with these people.

How quickly they forget...when they were starving...no schools..no public speaking of opinions...no electricity..no schools..no medicine..no nothing. They have been given a world stage now with the Olympic soccer team and are blowing an opportunity to show thanks and gratitude for our sacrifice in getting them to these games and making sure they do not face death or torture for a missed shot.

Instead they piss all over the dead soldiers who have fought for their freedom and protect them from evil milita's country wide.

I was pulling for these guys early on but their egoes and anti-american/Bush attitudes can kiss my good wishes good bye. They can lose for all that I care...maybe they need to feel what it is like to lose something again..since they have so quickly forgotten the feeling.

I guess athletes have as much right to be stupid as entertainers.

I never thought I would see thing's from Uday's point of view, in a million years. Every time these scum open their mouths, I start to come around.

The dementia sweeping Europe is spreading rapidly around the world. Nothing surprises me anymore.

The media is grabbing this story up as much as possible to to rub it in Bush's face and our's. It is disgusting. Granted the soccer player's education isn't probably the highest in the world, but they know damn well along with the coaches what they are doing and spreading with this kind of agenda.

Truth hurts in those commercials.2 more free countries..Afghanistan and Iraq...couldn't have been better said imo.

Agreed. Keep saying it. We have that right and so does Bush.

I wouldn't point to their soccer team as representative of their whole country any more than I'd want people to point to our US basketball team as being representative of our
whole country. There are plenty of crybabies to go around.

I want to hear from the other soccer players...not the original 3 quoted in the SI article.

Any word from them?

"ungrateful cocky Iraqi's with short term memory problems. "

Hey - jump on my bandwagon. I wasn't against the War, but knew these morons wouldn't support our actions there regardless, simply because we're a Christian nation freeing Muslims.

Muslims who were too lazy and cowardly to do the job themselves and now, once Saddam has been removed (thru not one of their own actions), they bitch, moan, shoot, and car-bomb the very people involved with their liberation. The fact that these former 'students' of Uday and Qusay (spelling? who cares?) torture schools are now complaining underlines and BOLDS this fact of Muslim stupidity.

Any Iraqi who complains is a fool who isn't worthy of a single American life lost over there. Our mission is doomed to failure there as a result of the moronic ineptitude of the average Iraqi to take advantage of their new freedom.

The U.S. Basketball team are a bunch of spoiled millionaires. They never faced torture or death if they failed. Just being laughed at.

Thats the beauty of freedom. You can say the most ungrateful, pathetic, back-stabing things without fear of being beaten with rubber hoses.

To the Iraqi Soccer team: Have fun abusing your freedom while you can. Soon, it will be up to YOU to protect and defend that freedom. If you fail to do that, you will be back under the heel of a dictator and unable to exhibit your ignorance so openly.

For the Americans disgusted at this guy: In a dictatorship, 10% or so live lives of wealth and power based on their oppression of the other 90%. When you crush a tyrant and institute freedom, there will be 10% or so(Several million people in this case.) who will not be happy about it.

The original SI article quoted one coach, one starter and one bench warmer.

Are you sure they're quoting the rest of the team?

I can't believe their attitudes either!! Talk about being ungrateful. I am disgusted by the stand these man are taking when for the first time in 30 years, Iraqi athletes go home without the fear of being tortured thanks to President Bush.

And the part the media is playing in all this is ...well...worthy of what the media does. Don't know why I am outraged. What did I expect?

I am saying that NBC is quoting it like this "The Iraqi Soccer team however wants no part of what they call "Bush's war...to leave politics out of this..they got there because they are hard working and good..and that Bush is responsible for hundreds and thousands of deaths of their countrymen"

You think it stinks now, wait until they lose... I'm sure they'll blame President Bush and the "abuse" of Abu Garib, as the reasons why they didn't medal.

I have tried to adpot that attitude about this. However,it is well known that the Iraqi's know how to do one thing really good...manipulate the media. They were brainwashed for decades how to do so in fear of their lives.

Show Anti-American protests with the CNN cameras rolling etc...and as soon as the camera shuts off..they put signs down and go home. They are all about the photo-op and all about the quote in the paper.

They all know damn well they want nothing more than to slam America at any chance they can get because they were not strong enough themselves to do the job.
