Iraqi Olympians denounce 'criminal' Bush
Ireland On-line ^ | 8/20/2004

Members of the Iraqi Olympic soccer team branded US President George Bush a “criminal” and called for American troops to pull out of the war-torn country.

Speaking after winning their group stage at the Games in Greece, one player said he would take up arms against US troops in his country.

And the team attacked Mr Bush for running re-election campaign adverts featuring the Iraqi team.

“Iraq as a team does not want Mr Bush to use us for the presidential campaign,” said midfielder Salih Sadir. “He can find another way to advertise himself.”

Sadir was angered at Mr Bush’s adverts, which show pictures of the Afghan and Iraqi flags with the words: “At this Olympics there will be two more free nations – and two fewer terrorist regimes.”

“We don’t wish for the presence of Americans in our country. We want them to go away,” said Sadir, aged 21, whose home town of Najaf has been battered by the war.

Another star player, Ahmed Manajid, aged 22, said of Mr Bush: “How will he meet his god having slaughtered so many men and women? He has committed so many crimes.”

Manajid, from Fallujah, said he would be fighting US troops right now if he were not at the Olympics.

“I want to defend my home. If a stranger invades America and the people resist, does that mean they are terrorists?

“Everyone (in Fallujah) has been labelled a terrorist. These are all lies. Fallujah people are some of the best people in Iraq.”

In an interview with the US magazine Sports Illustrated, the team coach Adnan Hamad told of the ongoing violence in his homeland.

“My problems are not with the American people. They are with what America has done in Iraq: destroy everything.

“The American army has killed so many people in Iraq. What is freedom when I go to the stadium and there are shootings on the road?”

The team was glad that Iraq’s former Olympic committee head Uday Hussein, who was responsible for the serial torture of Iraqi athletes, was no longer in power. He was killed in a firefight with US forces after the invasion.

A spokesman for Mr Bush defended the war on Iraq and the campaign adverts.

“The ad simply talks about President Bush’s optimism and how democracy has triumphed over terror,” the spokesman said.

The Iraqi soccer team has been one of the sensations of the Games, winning its group, despite a 2-1 defeat to Morocco in its latest game.

The team will go on to play Australia in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

Dear ingrates - YOU'RE WELCOME.

I guess you preferred torture by Uday & Qusay when you would lose.

Well, I can tell you one thing.

I'm no longer rooting for the Iraqi soccer team.

What a bunch of ungrateful asses.

Maybe they'd be a lot happier with Uday Hussein attaching a couple of electrodes to their 'nads and spending the afternoon leisurely torturing them.

Special memo to Ahmed Manajid: If you're planning on taking up arms against the US upon your return to Iraq, please tell your family to start planning your funeral.

Cut him some slack. They are used to pandering to irrational, deviant, misfits. With the Hussein's gone, the team needs to find another abusive parental authority... the world family collective of socialist sensibility has just the thugs they need to make them feel right at home.

These people really don't want freedom.

These people dont understand the concept of Freedom. All they want is food, water, and the Koran. Iraq will never be a democracy because the minute the people have a right to vote they will vote for an Osama bin landen type as their leader who will impose a Taliban like rule.

"... said Sadir, aged 21, whose home town of Najaf has been battered by the war. "

Evidently the fool forgot Saddam is the one that renended his Shiite hometown a ghetto and his boys used to torture the soccer players tht failed to win games.

"Manajid, from Fallujah, said he would be fighting US troops right now if he were not at the Olympics. "

You lose Manajid.

Ingrates. Nothing we do, no matter how noble or un-imperialistic we act, will ever be appreciated. It is clear we need to withdraw from the world, arm our nukes, and unequivocally state that we will blow the sh*t out of any country from which a terrorist attack is launched against us (whether offically sponsered by that country or not). We need to engage in the severest of economic protectionism and seal off our north and south borders with the military. The entire Muslim/terrorist situation will spread from Northern Africa and the Middle-east into eastern and ultimately Western Europe. We will then have a well defined enemy, and can then decide if we want to get involved and save Europe once again when they come begging for our help. Perhaps as payment we'll demand the entire country of France be ceded to the U.S. as a vaction spot for military and their families. The only French allowed to remain their will be servants for vactioning American Military and Family who saves them once again.

Iraq wouldn't have been such a s*hole, and it's people bullied by tyrants, if a signficant portion of the "Iraqi People" weren't such dopes.

Go Aussies! Beat the snot out of these pathetically ignorant ingrates. I guess they miss the good ol' days of Coach Uday. They may have ENJOYED the electric shock treatments, and considering their comments, it might have done them some good.

"I think the reporter forgot to interview some other members of the team."

More than likely, reporters went through all the Iraqi athletes and only chose to print the Anti-Bush rants.

Okay, let's play "Stop The Tape!", a little here... (and this is NOT against YOU, M-91)

And the team attacked Mr Bush for running re-election campaign adverts featuring the Iraqi team.

What, there's only three people on the team? There are only three quotes here - and they're supposed to be a good sample? What did the REST of them say?

“How will he meet his god having slaughtered so many men and women? He has committed so many crimes.”

Name two...

“My problems are not with the American people. They are with what America has done in Iraq: destroy everything.

Rebuilt schools, the lights and the water are on, the bazaars are bustling, the oil's flowing again - when the Jihadis aren't busting the pipelines - and the banks are trading. "Ah guess it depends on whutcher definishun of 'destroy' is..."

“The American army has killed so many people in Iraq..."

Oh, really? Where are these numbers? The only numbers WE ever hear are how many US troops "have died since the end of military operations in Iraq." Show me where there have been ANY reports of how many insurgents are dead!

Gee, that was fun...

Woooaaaa! Calm down... You got to remember the source. The liberal media will seek out those on the Iraqi team with these Bush hating anti-American views and ignore any team mambers who are gratefull to the United States which are probably the majority of the team.

I bet this same liberal Media outlit can interview team members of the Boston Celtics, or Detroit Lions and find a couple Bush haters to quote.

I'm still pulling for the Iraqi team to win.

Freedom gives peopel the right to say stupid things..however, had the Iraqi soccer team worn "W" buittons on their jerseys, do you think that would get as much publicity?

As noted, this is old news and Iraq already beat Australia.

We in this house knew about this "story" that at least one person over there said was suspect.

We in this house cheered for Iraq and will do so again this Saturday.
