To Our Fellow New Yorkers:

We'd like to take this opportunity to inform you that we will be conducting acts of non-violent civil disobedience and direct action on Tuesday, August 31st, during the middle of the Republican National Convention. At 4pm, we will occupy the areas around war profiteers, predator corporations and Republican donors. At 7pm, we will create "free speech zones" places around Madison Square Garden to express our outrage and to create the kind of world we'd like to see through music and dancing and free food and debate.

We truly apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you. We live in New York City too. We know how annoying it can be to miss a train or show up late to work.

Why non-violent civil disobedience and direct action? We are in a time of crisis. The planet is heating up. The Enrons and Halliburtons of the world have hijacked our air, water, land, pensions and voice. In the U.S. millions still go hungry or homeless or watch their children suffer from lack of health care. Bush's foreign policy unnecessarily threatens the lives of not only U.S. soldiers and Iraqi civilians but also New Yorkers. We live in the bulls-eye of future terrorist retaliations and the current war has done nothing but create more terrorists.

The solutions to these troubles are out there, but they probably won't come from our two-party system. And they certainly won't come from the Bush Administration.

We cannot rely on our Representatives to create change. History shows us that we never could, not for the big things. From the Boston Tea Party to the Civil Rights Movement to a century of Labor struggles, our freedoms were never given to us by government. They had to be taken, taken by people with the courage to put their bodies and reputations on the line in defiance of injustice.

We are being told that if we want to publicly oppose the Bush Administration, we must stand far away in "protest pens." Free speech wasn't made to fit into these tiny boxes. Neither was free assembly. We cannot afford to let the Bush Administration be the only voice to be heard during the Republican National Convention. Not when so much is at stake. The solutions are out there. We just need to create platforms for them to be heard.

Don't like it? Why not join us? Maybe you can join us in the streets. But if not, we ask that you support our actions from the sidewalks of Midtown. Your presence can make a difference! We have seen that men and women of principle can, when sufficiently determined, change history. Fellow New Yorkers, there may never have been a time when the world needed us more than right now.

EVENTS OF AUGUST 31ST 4pm: Independent actions occurring throughout midtown. Join up on south side steps of Union Square Park

6pm: Gatherings at Madison Square Park (23rd and Broadway) and steps of NY Public Library (42nd and 5th Ave.)

7pm: Convergence on Madison Square Garden. Check www.a31.org for more details or just come out on August 31st.

Nonviolence? Do not believe it!

Attention New Yorkers, The Left is bringing you the chaos, misery, violence, insecurity and destruction of the Seattle WTO riots.

New city, similar intent, same lunatics... worse outcome.

Sounds like an invitation to NYPD and Homeland Security.

Some guy from this group was on Medved today. Didn't seem as rabid as some, but maybe he just hides it better.

In the spirit of diversity, can we assume they've invited Al Qaeda to their festivities?

I'd like to create a "free speech zone" and create the kind of world I'd like to see through clubbing and arresting.

I'd like to live in a world where people who attempt to deny the rest of us the right to defend ourselves and to persue our own goals are put onto barges with the aid of front end loaders and towed out to sea.

Sniff...Who could deny a boy his dream?

Sounds like a pretty sensitive approach to me. I'm sure OBL, AQ, Hamas, Jemaah Islamiyah and others will join in singing Kumbaya and we can all go home to our snug little beds confident in our new-found security.

Don't let him fool you. These guys are scary! I know them from Seattle. They are hard core Communists... COMMUNISTS. They are affiliated with violent 'anarchists' groups. Their intent is directed at making statements through violence. WTO was no accident. And they attempted to do it twice after that. I fully believe they are intent to repeat the Seattle model and Kent State in the Streets of New York City. And they may be willing to do something big in order to manifest a self-fulfilling illusion of Homeland Security under the Bush administration and a Republican Governor as Gestapo-like. This group is the hardest core, European-esque green radicals that this country has to offer. And they are NOT playing around.

I'm not fooled. I just hope that his "free speech zones" are in the exact same location as the NYPD "head busting zones."

PS: Kent State was a shutout :)

There is a web-radio commentator out of Melbourne ( Prodos ) who has been tracking their activity for years. Check out these on-site interviews from past events, and guage the sanity of these people for yourself.

They did? I thought the Nazis took over. I seem to recall brown shirts and black shirts and Nazi SA attacking jews and anyone else who didn't agree to their utopia. Maybe Kristallnacht rings a bell.

Would you be saying that street looneys bent on destroying our government and our way of life be given a free pass to molest the citizenry and distrupt a legitimate expression of democracy, the Republican National Convention?

I am confident these fine folks will next go to Tehran and protest the death by hanging of Ateqeh Sahaleh just days ago for her sharp "tongue".

NYPD is definitely NOT the SPD. They might be counting on that.

In the spirit of Spanish Socialists attempting to undermine a fair election, yes you can.

At a time when NYPD will need to be at their highest security alert, Leftists anarchists will deliver them a riot. Why wouldn't terrorists seize the opportunity... foreign or domestic?

Check this out... (Related Thread)

A number of extremists with ties to the 1970s radical Weather Underground have recently been released from prison and are in New York preparing to wreak havoc during the Republican National Convention, The Post has learned.

A top-level source with extensive knowledge of police plans wouldn't disclose the names of the aging rabble-rousers but said a handful of them are already here and will play a behind-the-scenes role in attempting to disrupt the GOP gala.

RADICALS PLOT BAD WEATHER

We'll see. With that many people churned to high tension, they can whip a tempest any time they choose... as big as they want. They question now is, how far will they go. I submit their candidate is bleeding even before the joust has begun. They have nothing to lose.

This is a very polite notice from A31.

But read some of the stuff on their "Direct Action Handbook" site:

Like, inciting to riot or conspiracy to commit a felony.
In this case arson.
http://rncnotwelcome.org/g8.html
contains long narratives describing, in cheerful tones, anarchists taking over gas stations and starting fires in urban intersections.

This approach is offered as a plan for protesters. Labeled a "Direct Action Handbook"

= quote =
[The] Crimepensée Independent Revolutionary Cell noticed a Shell petro station in the distance. Hoping that everyone would get the message, he began yelling “Shell! Shell! To hell with Shell!” Within seconds, members of the Bloc started throwing stones and paint. The level of struggle was raised when yet another Crimepensée agent, bolt-cutters in hand, aimed straight at the window! Within a minute, some of the more enterprising members of the Bloc also rushed at the windows and began smashing them with their boots, iron bars, whatever was at hand. As the corner was turned, an Esso appeared, and the Bloc began reducing it to rumble as quickly as possible. The sound-van reminded everyone not to spend all their time destroying multi-nationals, but to remember that we were here to blockade roads.

Inside the Esso [station], the Bloc triumphantly seized everything from cigarettes to flowers, destroying as much of the Shell station as they could in the process. A few of the more enterprising members of the Bloc even grabbed oil for lighting future blockades on fire. The process continued like clockwork, and a Select station around the corner was just asking for it.

As soon as we came to the first intersection to blockade, the Black Bloc acted in a way that can only be considered professional. Boards, crow-bars, and dumpsters were artfully assembled, and as an artist would be a finishing touch on their masterpiece, lit on fire. Several members of the Bloc stood back to admire their handiwork, lighting their cigarettes on the burning wreckage.

(long passage).
= end quote =
