Presidential candidate John Kerry telephoned former Sen. Bob Dole Monday morning to complain about Dole's demand a day earlier that he apologize to Vietnam veterans for protesting the war, the one-time Republican presidential candidate revealed Monday afternoon."John Kerry called me this morning, which surprised me," Dole told radio host Sean Hannity. "He said he was very disappointed, we'd been friends. I said John, we're still friends, but [the Swiftvets] have first amendment rights, just as your people have first amendment rights.
Dole told Kerry, "I'm not trying to stir anything up, but I don't believe everyone of these people who have talked about what happened are Republican liars.
"And very frankly, Bush is my guy, and I'm tired of people on your side calling him everything from a coward to a traitor to everything - a deserter."
Dole said he urged Kerry, "Why don't you call George Bush today and say, 'Mr. President, let's stop all this stuff about the National Guard and Vietnam - and let's talk about the issues."
Dole said Kerry responded, "I haven't spent one dime attacking President Bush."
But the Republican war hero shot back, "You don't have to. You've got all the so-called mainstream media, plus you've got MoveOn.org. and all these other groups that have spent millions and millions of dollars trying to tarnish Bush's image."
"Don't tell me you don't know what some of these people are doing," he told Kerry.
"Everybody like quiet heroes," Dole added, saying he told Kerry, "John, everybody knows you were in Vietnam and the less you say about it, the better."
Dole said he tried to end the tense conversation cordially by telling Kerry, "I wish you good luck, up to a point."
Read that address line carefully. Is this subliminal or what?
Or, do I just have my tinfoil hat on about anything the media does?
us vote kerry veterans
Methinks that the afterglow of and the pride in the dedication of the long overdue WWII Memorial (that Bob Dole was so involved in), coupled with Dole's recent remarks will bring even more WWII Vet respect and support for the Swiftees and their effort to jerk the covers from kerry.
Can I vote for him again? I'm so proud of him I can't even tell you. He is just fantastic on this.
Ping.
Love ya Bob
So, they ready to talk about the early tranfer outta harms way it helped him get? WOO HOO!!!
LOL!
Kerry calling Dole will hurt him too. Most people see if for what it is. A whinning thin skinned mental lightweight that Kerry is. No matter what your politics, we need strong leaders. If Kerry can't take it from some SBVets and Bob Dole, how can he handle the terroriest and other tough leaders? I am now starting to think this may be the beginning of the end of Kerry. If one more big bombshell would drop this week. One smoking gun piece of evidence and his is a goner for sure.
What the heck did Kerry think the Dolester would say? "Oh, I didn't mean any of that?" Kerry is a buffoon.
I wouldn't say bitter, but "sharp". I didn't realize MacDonald is a Dole fan, though. I will have to go back and compare again.
This is true Howlin. I heard the whole conversation on Hannity's radio show this afternoon. Dole was fantastic -- reminded me of his senate days.
Kerry probably offered MCCain a Dept.! Has McInsane condemned kerry for using that clip of his??? What?? NO??? he's not said ANYTING???? Are you sure???? He called the SwiftVets LIARS and condemned them for telling their side of it....I just can't believe he hasn't come ot against Kerry for using that clip!!.../SARCASM.
I heard this conversation this afternoon. Bob tells it like it is.
The Demons will resurrect 'Bob "the Hatchet" Dole.' from 1976
Those of you who are old enough will remember what I'm talking about:
Ford-Dole vs. Carter-Mondale.
LOL, he once again rekindled my confidence in him - he was superb on CNN yesterday.
Why is Kerry trying to censor the Swiftboat vets when he has the 527's attacking Bush? Didn't he say in his acceptance speech "let's agree never to violate the Constitution for political advantage?"
Talk about flip-flop!
Post #239 is for you too, Meek. Thanks for the ping.
