Kerry can't and he won't. If he did, he'd also have to condemn his own campaign's attack adds against Bush, and would have to order the website to pull the "compare Kerry and Bush' service record" page. Kerry doesn't dare call off his 527s; they're too flush with money he can't otherwise use.

I just LOVE it! If Poodle wants the attacks stopped, he should join President Bush in a public plea for ALL 527s to stop airing ads immediately. BWAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - THIS is just TOO FUNNY!

Kerry and the dems would keep a commitment much like the Palestinians do.

Traitor John has got millions in 527 dollars some of it from foreigners. He's not about to give of the sleaze leverage that gives him.

"Phony Vietnam veterans alleged in books
Guenter Lewy's 1978 book America in Vietnam (pages 316-317) and B.G. Burkett and Glenna Whitley's Stolen Valor (Verity Press, Inc., Dallas, Texas)(pages 113, 131-137) contain similar information about alleged flaws in Lane's book. Neither book, however, refutes any of the testimony given during the Winter Soldier Investigation.

Lawyer and leftist activist Mark Lane was one of the organizers of Winter Soldier. In 1970, Lane had published a book called Conversations With Americans purporting to be interviews with Vietnam veterans about war crimes, containing Vietnam tales of atrocities. Reporter Neil Sheehan showed some interviewed in Lane's book had never served in Vietnam and others had not been in the situations they described. Lane admitted he did not check military records, as confirmation of details was not relevant. Lane later confirmed these militarty records.
The following are often falsely listed as being participants in Winter Soldier, but were actually in Lane's book instead. This confusion is probably due to Stolen Valor having an explanation of Lane's history within the section on Winter Soldier.
Chuck Onan, stock room clerk in Beaufort, S.C.
Michael Schneider, deserted in Europe and deserted again in the USA.
Terry Whitmore, was in an unpopulated area of Vietnam.
Garry Gianninoto, medical corpsman at battalion headquarters.
VVAW leader and Winter Soldier co-organizer Al Hubbard lied about being an officer, and sustaining war injuries - but he never testified at Winter Soldier .
According to the investigative work of Burkett, Lewy and others, there were many imposters, liars, and plain nutjobs who infiltrated the ranks of the anti-war movement, and, in some cases, testified to war crimes and atrocities that never occurred in order to get attention, sympathy, and, in one documented case, medals and honors."

Now Bush's condemnation of the 527s makes sense.

Bush is going to have a long wait for Kerry to denounce the 527 ads . . . .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . a very, VERY, VERY long wait.

They will turn it on Bush now by saying "Bush doesn't want regular Americans to have a voice during elections". They will do so despite of all the screaming at Bush to condemn regular Americans for doing just that.

If you do away with 527s, the media will just air the filth from these liberals for free.

If they could stop SBvets from airing TV commercials, what is to stop them from shutting down swiftvets.com? They have the ad playing over there and the website can be publicized by bumper stickers, billboards, word of mouth...how will they be able to shut down all free speech?

Edwards- "We need a president with the strength and integrity to say when something is wrong. Instead of hiding behind a front group, he needs to take responsibility and demand that the ad come off the air."

Hey John boy...
A) The President said they are wrong for the system.

B) Why have you and Botox b!tch boy not called for an end to moveon.org ads (as a matter of fact, Kerry's wife has funded them {She campaigns for you} and your campaign and the DNC have now been busted for coordinating with them.)

C) The President can't "demand" anything of the groups. The Office of President is NOT a DICTATORSHIP!

It seems that you and FLIP FLOP think that the office comes with unlimited biased power. GET A LIFE LENIN JR.!

(Bush: "I think Sen. Kerry served admirably. He ought to be -- he ought to be proud of his record."
...
Bush said "unregulated soft money" of 527 groups "is wrong for the process."

What about the Swift Vets, can't they be proud of their records as well? Do they not have freedom of speech to state their position. 527 groups are mostly a result of the Campaign Finance Reform Act, which Bush signed, saying that he hoped the Courts would overturn the unconstitutional parts. They didn't. Still if his position then was parts of CFR were a violation of the Constitution, why could he not stand up for the first amendment rights of the Swift Vets to make their case.

As with his stated stance on the AW ban, this statement helped the President with no one who was going to vote against him, and may have hurt him with some who were going to vote for him, or at least were leaning that way.

I'm disappointed that he would not stand up to the MSM and defend the rights of the vets. They have after all earned their right to speak at least as much as John Kerry has. Their right could be defended without agreeing or disagreeing with them. I'd have liked to see him disassociate himself from the Swift Vet statements (if he felt he must), but at the same time defend the right of the vets to make them. I thought that's what "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States" in his oath of office meant.
