Kerry Showing Signs of Meltdown?
The Kerry campaign closed out last week in full flail. And according to one source close to the campaign, the candidate is really starting to feel the heat. With looming questions about the integrity of his service in Vietnam dominating the narrative of the 2004 campaign, Democrat nominee John Kerry is in full battle mode against the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. In addition to the highly orchestrated smear campaign against the vets being run out of the Democrat National Committee, the Kerry campaign and the DNC has also produced a blizzard of legal threats toward television stations who are running the Swiftees television commercials, bookstores that carry their best-selling book Unfit for Command and against the Bush campaign and the Swiftees themselves for what the Kerry campaign insist is an illegal, coordinated attack against Americas most liberal Senator.
But for all the legal harassment and public scorn dumped on the Swiftees, it is Kerry himself who is nervous about the outcome of this increasingly nasty dispute. And its starting to show behind the scenes.
A source close to the Kerry campaign and the Democrat National Committee told crushkerry.com that John Kerry spent the better part of last week fighting with his political and legal advisors about how best to handle the Swiftees. His key political advisors did not want to confront the controversy head on, as Kerry has, for fear that it would draw further attention to charges of lies, fabrication and war crimes.
There were several conference calls and a couple of meetings. Everyone was screaming. I would consider it the low point of the campaign, our source told us. By taking the Vets on, John Kerry thinks hes demonstrating bravery. But its a horrible mistake, politically.
Kerry also battled with his lawyers all week, insisting they distribute threatening letters to bookstores. According to our source, the Kerry legal team thought this, too, would be a mistake with a big risk of backfire.
Look, bookstores arent going to stop selling this book because John Kerry wants them to, our source told us. From what I understand, John Kerry made the lawyers send these letters out. Kerry ordered it personally! I mean, we just look desperate.
Our source also told us that several political advisors argued strenuously against threatening the bookstores and television stations, again fearing they would simply draw attention to the charges.
When asked if they expected anything to come out of the Kerry campaigns complaint to the FEC against the Bush campaign and the Swiftees, our source was not optimistic. Those complaints are pretty much pro forma. The Bush people have filed dozens of complaints against us and the 527s. our source stated.
When asked if they thought the campaign had overreacted and mismanaged the issue, our source said yes.
The original plan was to let the press handle it [the controversy, on behalf of the Kerry campaign], our source told us. But John Kerry has gone off the deep end. He wants to personally discredit these guys. I dont know if what theyre saying about him is true, but they have touched a big nerve with him. There is a lot of bad blood there.
You're right. The war is far from won. Enjoy the victory in this current battle, but continue to encourage that "uneasy feeling." It prevents you from committing the sin of underestimating the dems.
Some advice from Bill Weld, a guy who's been up against him:
Kerry 'Will Have It Both Ways'
Oppo Research: An old rival's recipe for a GOP win this fallWeld: Kerry prone to 'analysis paralysis'
Ex-governor praises rival's intellect, debating skills
Kerry's no Clinton.
Maybe Kerry is buying up all the copies; a collectable.
Interesting picture. I wonder if her mother work in that
bar/"hotel" in Rach Gia. All the Swifties out of An Thoi made that town a port-a-call.
Just another Chernobyl, ready to blow. Countdown to zero hour----4-3-2-1
I don't think it's sold out. Drudge reported 550k copies in print...the fact amazon changed delivery dates makes me suspicious...however, am optimistic...market forces will win out in the end.
I think they are talking about the statement made by someone from Kerry's staff that actually said that the media wanted them to win and that they would have help from them in deflecting, ignoring and discrediting.
It was posted here on FR. I can't remember enough about it to search for it, but someone around here sure will!
The attack dog the poster was talking about it that horrible Tad Devine.
Once you see him, you can't miss him. He has the kind of face you want to slap the crap out of.
These guys left him alone while he was a "Senator" from Taxachusetts". His Pres run wasn't acceptable because it affected the nation and has a major impact. They do not want this "person" to become President.
I think he means skerries poster boy, the infamous waste of skin john hurley. He was on fox at 4 this afternoon, trying to argue with Van the man Odell. S&*t head hurley lost, as usual. Pretty weak interview though; lasted all of 10 minutes
("This time if Kerry shoots himself in the foot, there is no Purple Heart for his efforts, is there?"
If he becomes Commander-in-Chief, just imagine how many he could amass!)
They will have to change the blue room to the purple room.
lol
Why the long face Kerry?
I read it was the Brinkley book "Tour of Duty" published this year that really got 'em in a fighting mood. Apparently they felt they'd been trashed in the book.
His strategy all along has been to smear the SBVT vets, use McCain to pressure Bush to denounce the group and sue anyone who assists them (TV, bookstores, publisher). It's obvious Kerry is calling the shots - these are how a communist reacts to the truth.
JOhn KERry, you are the joker. Fuel up your campaign jet and head to Hanoi.
Cool.. I haven't seen a nopardons or Alamo-Girl post in ages. You two just made me feel like I went back in time several years!
Take a look at what YaYa123 found, it's really revealing about Kerry:

Did you ever think about this, with the money Teresa has, she could manage to destroy any business that continued to work against Kerry!
It's a scary thing to go up against people like that!
See you tomorrow SmartA.
(Sounds like he's going Nixon .)
Maybe that would be postal or could it be senatorial, whatever, he is going nuts. lol
